Do DC parents still blame teacher unions for everything?

Anonymous
Coronavirus levels in August were so low in DC that coronavirus was practically nonexistent. Every major medical association said it was safe for schools to reopen. So daycares opened. Private schools opened. Public schools almost everywhere outside the DMV opened. Bowser wanted public schools to reopen too but teachers refused to do their job because WTU saw an opportunity to turn the pandemic into an extended paid vacation, everyone else be damned. No one is going to forget what WTU did to their families.

Tooth and nail, no matter how much families were suffering. That's just not a good look and it probably cost teachers quite a bit of goodwill for years to come.

This. Exactly this.

White families...many POC still want DL

I can’t believe this, but I agree with you. The interests of a private organization not under the control of an elected official should not have such a big role in public policy.

Saying that dcps teachers shouldn’t have collective bargaining is anti black. Just say you’re a white Supremacist fascist and go.

there’s nothing more racist than thinking black kids should have the same access to education as white kids!

Sweetie you know nothing, the teacher evaluation system is racist and admin often target black teachers.

Please change the thread title it should be: Do white parents still blame teachers for everything?

Let’s be crystal clear here the great majority who are going around like apes on this forum are white. Yes some POC too but majority white. Many POC especially black still want a DL option.

Love you, second poster. 💕

Exactly.

It’s sad to see how women so quickly took up the rhetoric of the patriarchy. If the mayor had wanted schools open earlier, she would have prioritized schools over bars and restaurants and vaccinated teachers first, renovated schools, opened up excess buildings, and generally supported schools to open as quickly as possible. The science has evolved as we learned more - you can’t blame teachers for not trusting DCPS and not wanting to go back to an unventilated building pre-vaccination.

no - attacks on the union are because they were depriving kids of their education.

False argument.

No one said black kids shouldn’t have school. They said teachers shouldn’t die to make school happen.

But keep gaslighting vs raising your kid.

majority of black kids in DC STILL are not in school and teachers have been vaccinated for 4+ months ...

Bullshit. Teachers Unions and Police Unions are two sides of the same coin- a detriment to the people that pay for them and that they are supposed to serve. They are hated equally and there is nothing sexist/misogynistic about it.

Many of the school administrators and some of the principals are black though. Are they punishing black teachers? What about Hispanic teachers?

There aren't. This excuse-making, including rebranding anti-scientific anti-vaxxers "vaccine hesitant" because they happen to be POC is ridiculous (and WTU engaged in a lot of it this year). Get vaccinated or not. But at this point, if you don't and you get sick, that's on you. Not on "structural racism" or "white supremacy." Take some responsibility for your life for crying out loud. And stop using your own irrationall fears to prevent this city's kids from getting back to school.

Does often mean all the time?
And it depends on if they are white passing Hispanics.
