Well, that's the horse's mouth then! How is the atmosphere among your staff and your families? |
+1. I was thinking the exact same thing and I work for DCPS |
I'm the person who asked the question. Our Principal made it clear that she pro-WTU even after the SWW Principal was fired and indicated that she believed the parent community supported WTU efforts to keep schools closed too. She didn't pivot until after the parent survey results were released, which is what made me believe this might be the reason. Why would you support WTU's efforts to keep schools closed? This position seems to be in direct conflict with being an educator. |
This! |
If true, then his firing was for a good cause. Time to reopen schools and Principals need to stop thwarting it. It's reprehensible for them to act against the students they're supposed to serve. |
I am not your principal so I cannot speak for them. That would be something to ask them in a meeting To the other poster, my staff is happy but also overwhelmed with all of the DCPS mandates and expectations of teaching inperson and virtual. A lot of parents want everything perfect working day 1 and that is just not reasonable. We are taking it slowly and trying to make sure everyone feels part of the classroom community while also maintaining safety. |
Union person here: thanks for the timeline clarification. |
Glad to hear it. I know at our school a lot of teachers didn't want to come back but were forced to so there's tension in the air. But the kids are so so so so happy. |
I want to say thank you for your work and your words here. You give me hope that we can navigate schooling through the pandemic, while trying to address some of most everyone's concerns. |

Vaccine's are still being administered? COVID variants, including a Brazilian one already here that the current vaccines have no protection against? |

Probably they don't want to have to send an email to the school community saying that a teacher or student was sick, died, in the hospital, etc. Why is that not clear to you people? At the school I work at, we had 8 kids show up to our first day of in person learning. A few said they didn't come in because of the weather. About 10 others specifically withdrew from their seats becuase they are just not comfortable sending their child on the metro and having them in school all day given the level of covid in the community. We don't have a wait list and never even filled all the seats that we had. |

I supported the union plan to get rid of it. |

The strategy and power struggle between the union and dcps leadership is fascinating if depressing. Reopening schools should not be a game.
Firing that principal from SWW may have tipped the scales but what a price to pay for that school community. And, it sure didn’t work very quickly. |
Exactly. It was a very big price to pay and possibly short sighted as DCPS already has a difficult time attracting strong principal candidates from outside the system. Many problematic principals are kept on because it is so hard to replace them. In the long run, that is not good for DCPS |
