Parents: Would you support a teacher strike if it means there is no DL?

Anonymous
Just wondering if the "support for teachers" extends to having no distance learning if teachers do strike. Would you be cool with that? For how long?

NO. Absolutely NOT.

No, I would not support a strike. I don’t think the teachers have justification for a strike.

What would they be striking for?
If it was for the vaccine to be effective before return then 100%.
If for less screen DL time 100%.

So suppose the teachers strike illegally, leading to some getting fired. Fewer teachers/kid. More kids/class. To support those most at need, you should probably remove your kid from school entirely, correct? Or somehow make no demands on the time of the fewer teachers, right? How would you do that, to support the teachers?

DCUM ask the dumbest questions sometimes.

Your whole argument is that you need to sacrifice yourself and child to help those in the most need to help support your want (not need) to get your kids out of your house. False equivalency flag!!!

Ha! I know, I love the reasoning here. If you don't support a strike then you need to remove your child from school entirely. Huh? The lack of a middle ground is what has gotten us to this point.

But if you support a strike, you must support some of the teachers facing termination, yes? And then what happens?

I don't care if there is DL or not since I'm effectively homeschooling anyway, but I don't support an illegal strike to sabotage a return to real school.

today would have been a good day to strike btw - said with a little sarcasm. snow day would be nice but with DL what is the point.

i'm tired and cranky today, don't want to work, just want to stay in bed with a book.

Why should they strike? What aren’t they getting?

Yes, I do support people facing termination if they are not going to do their job. I supported that last fall. All of the people saying "we'll quit if..." should just quit so we know what we're working with moving forward.

I would support a strike if the demand is full, effective vaccination of faculty and staff barring documented medical excuse. Every faculty/staff member would report to the middle school where they teach or that is part of their school’s feeder pattern the following Saturday for the first shot and three Saturdays later for the second. In-person school would start the following Monday. Teachers who have a medical excuse not to be vaxxed would teach DL for the students who cannot attend in person. Teachers who refuse to be vaxxed would be placed on unpaid leave.

Otherwise, no. I do not support a strike.

This will not happen, of course.

Well, I'm French. Unfortunately, in France, striking has become a very bad habit.

I would only support a strike if I wanted what they were striking for, OP. Duh.
