My husband is very heavy. He has trouble walking because his weight makes his knees bad. He said from his perspective, everyone mocking Trump for having trouble walking down the ramp, is making fun of him as well. That basically we're all just engaging in a whole lot of fat shaming, which doesn't end with Trump.

My husband hates Trump as much as I do, which is to say a lot. He doesn't think we should refrain from mocking Trump for his physical ailments because it's mean to Trump, but because so many other people - who aren't egregious, nasty, evil bullies - will also feel the sting.

Anyway. I feel very badly now. 10 years married to this guy, and sometimes he still has to remind me that not everyone gets to walk through the world with good knees.

PP, that's good insight, and thank you for sharing. If it helps, people are saying Trump's posture and gait are from a neurological problem rather than weight.

I would feel more badly for Trump if he himself didn’t have a long history of fat shaming others.

Oh, please, three things:
1. Much steeper ramp. Compare. The floor of the stand is lower on the Biden tape. People standing next to it are taller than the floor. The floor of the ramp is above Trump's head when he reaches the ground.
2. Going down a ramp is much more difficult.
3. Trump was walking double file.

Its actually the exact same ramp and Biden was the same age then that Trump is now, but sure, walking double with someone else makes that big a difference.

+1 walking next to someone always makes me take one step then drag the other foot up to exactly where my first foot is, then repeat. Not.

Not the same ramp. You do understand that this is not the normal venue for the graduation? It is usually held in Michie Stadium. This was on the Parade Field.

Ooh, maybe West Point booby trapped the ramp so it would be extra hard for the elderly, disabled president to walk down so there would be a video which would embarrass him.

Welcome to the resistance, ramp.

+1. Plus, Biden was bouncing up the ramp. Not toddling down it like Trump.

People are mocking Trump because he claims to be the picture of perfect health and shames others who are not. It’s the hypocrisy. No one is making fun of your husband.

A stumble would have been far worse.
