Yes, perhaps. That and how active the KKK is in your community. Frederick rates pretty high on that scale too. |
The only thing Guan did was take away votes from Austin. They really should have all gotten behind one candidate. |
Eh. It's equally valid to say that the only thing Austin did was take votes away from Guan, they really should have all gotten behind one candidate. |
Today's updated numbers: Harris 29.2% Dasgupta 18.7% Austin 15.1% |
Also, Urbana: low income rate 5% Sherwood 16% Not really a fair comparison. But if we were to compare, I would expect Urbana to have much higher SAT scores than Sherwood since the disparity in FARMs rate is at least 10%. But no... Urbana: SAT 1270 Sherwood: SAT 1230 Urbana: AP participation 39% Sherwood: 51% Let's compare Urbana to an MCPS HS that has about 5% FARMs rate... that would some place like Wootton or Churchill, which blows Urbana out of the water. I'm sure Urbana is a good school, but I would not say that it's better than other schools that have low FARMs rates in MCPS. I guess if you can't afford the more wealthier places in MoCo, and you want to live in an area with no poor people, then Urbana is a good choice. Personally, Frederick feels a bit rural to me, though their downtown is ok. |
Caveat that it wasn't very many more votes counted than the first count. |
As a Democrat who also voted for Austin, it's a bit disappointing. I voted for him, because he's the only one who bothered to meet and listen to my community (before the stay at home order). Also, I thought the BOE could use more balance. |
Lifelong Dem voter here as well altho only 11 yrs in MoCo. What info can you cite on Harris? I was choosing betw her & Dasgupta (didn't like Austin for a # of reasons). |
Balance of what? Balance between people who are informed and people who are uninformed? Balance between people who think that schools are about education and people who think that schools are about property values? Balance between people who have worked to improve education and people who have repeatedly mongered fear and spread lies? |
I personally voted for Steve Austin because I don’t think there is enough diversity on the BOE. The President, Vice President and both at large members are from the Silver Spring area. We have a large and diverse county and we need a more balanced BoE. |
But Harris and Dasgupta keep increasing their percentages as more voted are counted, while Austin's is decreasing. Today: Harris 29.5% Dasgupta 19.0% Austin 14.9% |
Most of the east county is "Silver Spring". Also, the Board of Education consists of 5 district and 2 at-large members (and one SMOB). Shebra Evans, currently the Board of Education president, lives in "Silver Spring" because that's where District 4 is. Brenda Wolff, currently the Board of Education vice president, lives in "Silver Spring" because that's where District 5 is. Similarly, Pat O'Neill lives in Bethesda, because that's where District 3 is. Hey, how about that? She lives in Bethesda, just like Steve Austin! Here's the map of districts: https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/Elections/Resources/Files/pdfs/maps/UpdateYear/Boardofed032318.pdf |

Great! So vote for Sunil Dasgupta - a man (none currently on the BoE), Asian (none currently on BoE), lives in Rockville (not Silver Spring). That will bring more diversity to the BoE! |
