Yes, but you can either choose to keep your spot (and attend or go online, as the college dictates); or stop whining about what you can not control.

+1. I swear there are people who are on a parenting site for the sole purpose of asserting that it's pointless to think about parenting.

Not PP. I have a rising freshman. The second comment is fine. DCUM is not a parenting site. It's a bitching and moaning site. Get a freaking grip.

I'm new to this site. It surprises me in the worst kind of way how similar this is to the college student sites I was on earlier trying to figure out what is going on.

Colleges expecting 15% decline in enrollment? Doesn't that sound like roughly the % of international students at each top 50 US News? Might be teasing out they don't expect any international travel / student visas this year.

There’s a ton of snark here ranging from funny to vicious. But there are also many sensible people delivering good information. You’ll learn how to sort and to get the info you need. Just don’t mention UVA, Penn State, Oberlin, fraternities, full-pay, diversity, distance learning, colleges that change lives, SLACs or directional U’s.

I work at a small liberal arts college in the Midwest. We got a “we fully expect classes to resume in an on-campus, in-person format this fall” email from our President today.

If your children are college-aged and you are still “parenting” them, I would say you should probably reconsider your approach.

Thanks for this succinct but utterly accurate assessment!

Terrible advice. Of course you still parent once they’re in college. I spent some time today with my at-home college kid who witnessed a conference call and I gave him some pointers on how to make a positive impression on those meetings. Not sure why you think kids who’ve lived away for a few months suddenly know it all.

Actually, you remain your child's parent until you die.

Your role in their life evolves, but it is unique and should be (at least in most healthy families) highly valued.

All rooted in insecurity.

Appears Notre Dame hopes to open, but has not made any definitive decision. Seems they have the wellbeing of staff and students in mind and plan to do extensive antibody and diagnostic testing and engage in contact tracing and isolation when appropriate. It is a large campus that can house all of the undergraduate students if needed. https://coronavirus.nd.edu/news/letter-to-faculty-considerations-for-fall-reopening/

Anonymous wrote:They have to say that. The decisions from students are due this week. If they announce closure they will not get students and will have to lay off staff etc etc and it'll be a big tumble. So they're gambling on it being ok. It's unknown if they will open and have to socially distance students and do online classes while kids are in the dorms. Much easier to say they are open now and take deposits (which they can take time to return) than the other way around.

This comment did not age well.
