They reconciled shortly before Orr’s death, after over a decade of estrangement. I took Ric’s comment to mean he wished he’d reconciled with him sooner. In this Rolling Stone interview, he calls himself controlling several times. “We were the best of friends forever,” Ocasek says, his fondness tinged with regret. In their initial years together, “sometimes we played his songs. But dear Ben – I could never get into the lyrics. I almost didn’t want them part of the thing. Maybe it was the controlling,” he concedes. https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/the-return-of-the-cars-105832/ |
| How did they end up with so little money? |
Interesting this said the bulk of his money was in trusts. I thought other articles said there were no trusts. Maybe the two kids disinherited in the Will were covered by a trust. |
And he certainly was under no obligation to leave a dime to his soon to be ex wife who had LEFT him and was seeing another man. I don't think he was bitter. He realized that his marriage was over and decided to update his will and maybe establish trusts for his kids before he had surgery. Why should he have left a dime to Paulina? I get that she's entitled to her half of the marital assets and I am assuming that there had already been some sort of financial agreement between them when they legally separated. Paula has pretty much admitted that she left Ric because he had gotten old. I mean...why would he leave her anything? |
Yeah, the kids aren't the ones complaining. Paulina is the one who is complaining. |
| Wow, he was so ugly. |
Agreed. We had someone die at home, after being in hospice, and we delayed making the call because we just wanted that last extra bit of time as a family. |
I think the thing that struck me as odd is that his death was a shock. It was unexpected. But I can see why having the kids there to say goodbye to him privately was a good thing for that family. I suppose Paulina was well aware what a circus it would be once the news of his death got out there. |
| I knew one of his good friends from Boston and he was considered a narcissist and controlling according to my friend. |
| She must’ve earned a lot of money in her career. I’m sure she is not broke by any means. Just not as rich as she’d like to be. |
I think it's quite possible that she just invested all of her money in this marriage/kids, without really paying attention what's "hers" (super-model money). She felt secure/safe and he was probably in-charge. Laid back people like this usually assume everyone else is like them, especially their partners that they know so well. It was really a dick move on his part. He left 2 women with his children. He left his previous wife for a 19 year old! And before dying decided to punish someone?? C'mon now! |

Still broke. Still looking for a sugar daddy to pick up the bills. Unlikely at 56 though.
