It's on the Nov. 12th BOE meeting agenda. |
Thanks! |
Moco has no long essays. Longest essays are only 2 pages. |
|
A couple of additional calendar options are being presented at Tuesday's board meeting.

It's not only essays that take a long time to grade. Just collecting a paragraph or a couple of math problems on a quiz can take 3 hours to grade (150 students x 1 minute minimum to read, mark, enter score, and flip a page). Collect one or two pieces of work per week, or give a more involved assignment or test and we are at 5-7 hours, at a rate of 2-3 minutes per students. - HS teacher who spent 6 hours grading today, and is side-eyeing the pile I brought home which I estimate is another 5 hours. |
Absolutely not true. I’m grading essays this weekend and the shorter ones are roughly 2.5 pages. Looking at the stack, I see a couple that are at least 2 sheets front and back at Times New Roman 12, not including footnotes and works cited. |
If school starts the Monday of the week before Labor Day (as it did for many, many years), there’s 5 days of instruction, followed by a three day weekend that includes Labor Day. I really hope you aren’t doing work that requires words or calendars. |
| When will the BOE make the final decision on the 2020-2021 calendar? |
December 3rd |

Here is Dr. Smith's recommendation for the 2020-21 calendar. The board will vote on it on Tuesday:
https://go.boarddocs.com/mabe/mcpsmd/Board.nsf/files/BJ9NDP5E9AD3/$file/2020-2021%20SY%20Calendars%20191203.pdf School starts 8/31/20 Schools are open on Inauguration Day Last day of school 6/16/21 |
I hope they add December 23rd as an early release day. |
Maybe they have planned for that already but mistakenly left it off Attachment A. In the memo itself it says there are 7 early release days, but there are only 6 marked on the calendar grid. |
The Innovative school calendar has early release on 12/23, so I imagine all schools will too. |
| Why isn’t Inauguration Day off? Everyone else is planning for that day off. Traffic may very well be a mess. |
Because it's the Wednesday of the same week with the MLK holiday on Monday. |
