Seriously—we’re in year 5 of a terrible principal, but everyone gave him a chance in years one and two to learn the job. If she still sucks in years three and so on, then I’d start complaining. But conserve your energy. Mcps gets rid of no one who can show the most basic level of competence.

When it is a school safety issue, parents can't afford to be silent. Moving large buses to a small lot with many students walking through the area is a safety issue.

1) The only kids getting run over are the kids who's parents are dropping them off and don't follow the protocol. Easily solvable - follow the rules. Be more patient, get there earlier or put your kid on the bus.

2) Tell your child to wait until all the traffic has cleared, no more than 10 minutes and they can safely make their way to your car.

3) Put your kids on the bus. Most of the kids dropped off do not live where there is no bus service.

4) Be really really effing glad that apparently the biggest issue at our school is apparently the drop off and pick up.

5) There are actually a lot of bigger issues and it is mind blowing that a whole set of you are focused only on this small thing that you can easily avoid by following the suggestions above. I can't figure out if you are myopic or just selfish.

If you were a Churchill parent you would realized that the proposed lot on Victory is the student parking lot and wasn't designed for buses. Students walk through the lot to get to their cars and will be driving through the lot to exit (sometimes disobeying the new traffic pattern and exiting at the entrance).

As a Hoover parent who winessed a MCPS bus total a car in front of a school (bus driver was cited by police) cars and buses in a crowded space can be dangerous. From a liability standpoint, you would think MCPS could stagger the pickup in the bus loop if there's not enough space for them to park.

Parents make up the PTSA. If parents reached out to her and spoke to her about the issue, then so what if she didn't speak to the precious PTSA.

It is her email that implies she received PTSA input that jeopardizes her credibility. No one is served by a principal that has difficulty with being open and honest.

Dear Churchill Community:

Thank you to everyone who has joined the PTSA this year. We are in the middle of our big membership drive and appreciate parents and guardians joining the PTSA so we can best represent all WCHS families and provide our many programs and activities.

Your membership is important to us. Your donations to the PTSA are tax deductible. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit.

Our PTSA is ranked #1 in Montgomery County for parent and family engagement.

Last week, Mrs. Heckert emailed the Churchill community with several important news items about traffic safety, restroom vandalism, and lunch time protocol. The PTSA supports Mrs. Heckert’s requests.

Apparently the PTSA is supportive of her plans.

Heckert really needs to roll up her sleeves and fix the long standing patterns of employee misconduct by her current staff. Children have been hurt on athletic teams at Churchill and very little has been done to address the problems of bullying and sexual harassment by coaches on multiple teams.

Current athletes need to be educated as to what is considered appropriate and inappropriate standards of conduct for coaches. The damage is deep on some of the large coed teams at Churchill. Many students may need counseling services. Confidential investigations as to coaching conduct should be done on every team at the school to gage where help is needed. Ultimately, the previous school administration let this environment propagate and cleaning house is necessary to fix the situation.

I hope this gets addressed. I've told my child that s/he can't try out for track or cross country because of what I've heard.

Multiple athletes last year came forward to describe the horrid treatment by coaches on these teams. Some have now graduated, one child tranferred to a private school, and some chose to not participate on these teams any more. Benz and the AD have ignored complaints for years. Heckert needs to have greater oversight and monitor these teams.

As a parent, my child would be interested in competing in track in shot put and other infield events. Unless the coaching staff is changed, he will never participate in track at Churchill.

These are civil rights issues. Clearly someone should be knowledgeable on Title IX and equal access?

Mrs. Heckert isn't speaking at the first PTSA meeting but her supervisor, Dr. Moran is. Perhaps he will come perpared to address this continuing problem at Churchill.

I am a Churchill parent who puts her kid on the bus. If the students are disobeying the traffic pattern then on whom does the responsibility fall? The students in that lot are Seniors, old enough to know better and follow the rules and all of you learn a little bit of patience.

There was confusion at the beginning of the year because the traffic pattern changed at the entrance to the Victory lot without signage or information to students. One way arrows on the blacktop or a Do Not Enter sign would have clarified the change from previous years.

I agree, if an accident occurred, the students would be liable. New drivers and teenagers are more accident prone and pay less attention when driving. Statistically, they are more likely to have an accident than an adult over the age of 25.

I think there is now a security guard at the entrance in the afternoon that prevents the students from exiting the wrong way. Again, better signage would be a better solution.

Yes, I hear your point, but there are safer places to move those buses (for all involved). There is no justification for putting them in the lot where seniors park and parents do student pick-up. By the way, I'm guessing that it hasn't occurred to some people that some students have actual commitments after school that are time sensitive (doctor appointments, tutors, jobs etc.) that were based on a schedule that students could get out of that parking lot at 2:30 either driving their own car or being picked up. As the parent of another child at the school, it's not so easy to change those things. Many of these appointments are already set and the provider can't re-arrange them. I actually tried to re-arrange my child's math tutor for a later time because of the parking lot issue and they said they were fully booked and can't move students around in their schedule. Now my kid will be late every week. This will affect MANY students.

I am disappointed in the PTSA leadership and announcement on this issue. We have yet to have a membership meeting. Putting buses in the student lot was not discussed last year when the traffic issues were being reviewed. To send out the last PTSA email one day before Mrs. Heckert is hell bent to put buses in the student parking lot shows a disconnect in community representation on this issue. There are safer options.

Classic example of how MCPS puts it's needs over care and concern for all students.

The buses could stagger their pickup time by 5-10 minutes. That would be a safe solution to the large bus loop traffic jam issue.

The faculty lots could be used as a 2nd bus loop. That would be another safe solution.

Mixing buses in an overcrowded loop with student drivers and walkers is not a safe solution.

Curious if anyone saw the new parking lot logistics in action this afternoon.

If it were a shitshow, there would have been tons of posters ready to throw Mrs. Heckert under the proverbial bus. The lack of comments means one thing; all must have gone pretty well despite the Armageddon predicted by the pushy Potomac parents.

Not really. You posted in the afternoon. Parents probably are busy driving carpools, cooking dinner, and getting ready for the next day of school and work when you posted.

They had MCPS personnel guarding the lot from cars from what I can tell. I did not see the Resource Officer to direct traffic as promised but perhaps she came out after I left. Seniors had the biggest impact because the buses blocked them in lot. The buses filled 2 lanes in the loop and it appeared that the lot was too small to fit all the buses MCPS has intended to put there.

The faculty lot is much bigger and would be a better solution. Staggering the buses they want to put in the student lot might be necessary. Buses were still arriving after 2:30pm. Victory Lane traffic became a standstill till buses could turn into the loop.

Yesterday, the weather was good. Add rain or snow to the mix (including the snow piles where the snow will be pushed) and the scene would be even more ridiculous.

Mrs. Heckert showed her true colors of how she operates with the bus issue.

Here's an idea. Since the busses transport the majority of the students how about the pick ups and drivers be held until everyone else gets out of there?
