Jeepers, why would a for-profit tutoring company have incentive to be anything but honestly with spendy upper middle class parents??? |
Seriously, these for-profit tutoring companies are in the business of selling fear. |
I could mark my kid's papers myself without paying $30k, and me no speaky English. How did you let it get so bad in first place? |
+1 This is exactly how I feel about public school. My child attended Langley HS which is the 3rd best HS school in the state of VA behind TJ and Mclean. TJ is a much harder school but that is a discussion for another day. He was getting A's but at the end of the freshman year, it was an eye opening for me. His reading, writing and grammar was horrible. I am so glad that his mother saw this and put him into private school. It is costing us 43k/year and he is also getting B's and C's but I am very happy that he is actually learning something. He is also working with a tutor everyday and grading at private school is definitely much harder. I can't blame teachers at public schools because they just don't have time with 30+ kids. I definitely take private school over public school anytime, |
I love how we pick the most difficult diagnostics test and then scare the kid/mother into signing up. Same for LSAT. WOrks most of the time... |
We found the attention on our child to be the big difference. If your child is a self starter who is bright and outgoing, public school can/will work- TBH at the high school level there are more class options in a good public school. In a private school , yes my kid can take an obscure course, via videoconferencing, and do an independent study.
For us, with a quiet, shy kid and parents not willing/able to be super involved in the school, private works. They focus on my kid and have helped develop confidence, self advocacy and intellectual curiosity. |
Why didn't you just get a tutor in public school if your kid was having trouble with writing? |
Opportunity cost. I'm not PP, but there are only so many hours left in a day once you take out sleep and time at school. Why waste a precious hour of after school time (that can be spent on homework, extra-curriculars, fun with friends/family) with a tutor on subjects that can be taught more adequately during school? |
You are so obnoxious. It is not my job to mark my child’s papers. My child went to a HGC in a MCPS which is the top 1-2% of kids in the county. There was nothing I was letting get so bad you twit. Straight A’s and your child is so smart. Every paper - A. Every test A. Supposedly thriving. Moved to private because I heard the horror stories of public middle school. She received a 10% on her placement vocal test. Teacher said all public schools bomb that because they don’t teach it. Her writing was terrible in their eyes and it took a year of solid B’s and high C’s t get her to realize she was coasting in public. I will gladly pay the money for my child to get a education were she is truly learning and held accountable. |
How did your child get into private school with such poor exam results? |
LOL. Delusional private schools parents indeed. I guess you missed this part "Actually, they said, the upward creep is most pronounced in schools with large numbers of white, wealthy students. And its especially noticeable in private schools, where the rate of inflation was about three times higher than in public schools." |
Because PP is a troll |
You missed the part where PP switched to private AND got a daily tutor. |
Have you ever heard of Legacy, recruited athlete and big donors? That's how..... |
Yes because that demographic has nightmare belligerent parents. Any teacher would just give out an A to avoid the parents. |
