Has the u14 and above given you any insight anything?

If your daughter has aspirations to play beyond high school, she'd be crazy not to try for GDA at U14.

What about ECNL? Are bryc, maclean, bethesda, md united teams going to be able to attract top area talent?

I personally don’t see ECNL retaining talent in the long run. Kids currently on teams will stay put but younger age groups will lose talent to DA.

Washington spirit has a video archive of away games:

you can see all of the local competition on display... hard to make this case that for right now, girls DA teams are that much better than a decently good club team.

Put your game videos up for comparison.

Regardless of today, in a year there will be no comparison. Coaching has already significantly migrated to DA, talent is in the process of migrating, and the quality gap will get wider. Doesn't anyone remember the early years of boys' DA? Same thing. And now any real boys DA team blows a "decently good club team" out of the water.

we're really just watching former CCL or NPL (or maybe ECNL) players recombined into a new set of team s. It's no different.

While that’s true, it's quite the change. Imagine training/playing alongside 11 other girls who have determination, coachability, and skills required. That’s mind blowing. Not having to put up with grab-assing, distractions and weak skills is a different world.

Please elaborate... certainly you weren't being literal, there is a case a day ago about a teen soccer player running away with her much-older coach.

grab-assing. “Foolish or disruptive behaviour; horseplay. Frequently in "to play grab ass": to engage in horseplay, to fool around. “

just meant when kids are distracted, distracting, disruptive

Why is it a "rumor" when they are asking 2006's to come out? I'm a legit DA Ignoramous, so sorry if it's a dumb question.

My point is based more on is the level of talent in ECNL 3 or 4 years from now worth the travel and cost? We have had pages long complaints about the in state travel for mediocre games in CCL. Will the talent be worth a bus trip to North Carolina when it isn’t worth it to go to Va Beach? It might be now, that I do not dispute but I doubt it will be in a few years.

Yes, this is what was focused on. I know folks are deabting the current situation but I was reflecting on the 06s, 07s, maybe even 08s (although their parents are not really tuned in) . . . . just seems to be that people think that the top handful of players on these First Teams are gonna try for these DAs, just like the boys, over going to mclean/braddock for whatever players want to take on ecnl travel . . .

05s are too close in them to all this shakeup so I think 6s and 7s will be the shift if there is one. parents think there are way too many options right now and hoping in 2 years the winner will be clear.

Guess some are assuming the top players will tryout for DA, and if they are not good enough, then maybe stick with a local A travel team and take some pressure off. parents not sure what to think, but it doesn't seem like ecnl is being viewed as some great destination because of high school sports. if high school is such a big influence for a kid, then they don't need ecnl, right?

For 05s I think we see a 65% tip in the scale for DA. The only area for a decision matrix would be McLean and BRYC area players. With FCV drawing even more mind share of kids and parents to DA those families will no longer be thinking ECNL. They’ll have 3 DAs to choose from location wise. FCV/Loudoun kids are not going to seek out BRYC or McLean for ECNL. PWSI/VSA kids will also not be seeking out McLean or BRYC for ECNL. Arlington kids have to drive somewhere anyways so they will likely choose a DA over ECNL.

Vienna kids will have DA mind share with VDA.

That leaves McLean and BRYC to draw only from their own zip codes where in the past without DA, ECNL did draw kids from all over.

So if you are a kid in Loudoun and you are a good player and you don’t make FCV, VDA or Spirit then you are likely staying in CCL or NPL vs bothering with trying out for ECNL especially if you have a good role on your current team. I just don’t see two ECNL clubs who are surrounded by DA having any reach beyond their own player pool going forward.

There are quite a few girls that after last year left Arlington to play for McLean ECNL, more than went to Spirit DA. I think there were 3 girls from all the age groups that went to spirit and 5-6 girls to McLean. Right now, I do not feel as though there is a difference between ECNL and DA. Both are elite, incredibly expensive ($5,000+!!), and require a lot of travel. The one determining factor for many families right now is actually 1-high school soccer and 2-college recruiting. The ECNL college recruiting is insane. If you play in ECNL and you want to play college soccer, odds are, you will get at least 3 offers. However, the DA is just emerging and right now, is not the "premier" destination for some coaches, who have consistently gotten their players from ECNL. And then there's the whole Boy's ECNL thing....

The big shift to WS DA begins this year with the 05s and 06s. No one likes the HS thing, but it is far from a deal breaker. This is happening just like the boys.
