Low. Maybe 800 out of 8,600 eligible households. With all the years of bickering, only 800 families cared enough to vote. There's still time left though--until 6.

To be fair, those of us without kids in the school at this point, weren't notified. It is only by my searching that I was able to find out. Thus, 800 is probably about half of the current enrollment, who were definitely aware of the process. That's about half of the current enrollment so pretty decent turnout.

And, it was one vote per household--so, if kids have a sibling--it's still just one vote. And, I guess the same goes for multifamily households.

That's likely because most wanted to keep the name. That was not an option for the vote.

Or very few people cared either way.

Parents with kids at any school in they pyramid (including elementary and middle) should have been notified. Also, many of the people who spoke last week had younger kids or kids who already graduated Stuart. I doubt very much that the 800 were mainly families of current Stuart students. A large percentage of kids at Stuart are Hispanic and, to be honest, this issue isn't something that really resonates with them because being adversely impacted by massive resistance really isn't a part of their families' history. I think this was an issue for liberal whites and some blacks on one side, and conservative whites on the other. And, it wasn't a huge number of those people on either side anyway, hence the low turnout.

There were about 1000 households casting votes, according to someone working the desks around 6 PM.

So, now we will see if they listen to the community. Predictions?

Well, according to the tally, there must have been at least double that.

No, each person could cast three votes with first =3, second = 2 and third = 1.

I think it depends on how you define listening to the community. Stuart is basically the current name. There were 917 first choice points to keep that name and over 2,000 points to change it. So the majority of people who voted wanted the name changed. I think that should be a consideration. I'm guessing they'll keep Stuart and that's why they allowed that to be an option, while saying JEB Stuart couldn't be an option. This way they appear to do something without really doing anything. I'd say if a third want to keep the name and two thirds want it changed, it should be changed.

So, it is being changed to Stuart. In the run up to this, in all the surveys, more wanted to keep the name than to change it. And, our SB refused to accept that.

The SB should have done this two years ago. Just said that we will drop the Jeb whenever possible. Phase it out. Expense: practically nothing.

Fiscal responsibility will win. And, it should.

If more wanted to keep the name, why did only a third vote for Stuart?
