Brookeville

5 bedroom colonial/$650ish

HHI $165ish (combined)

Moved here for the school district and to be near family.

Wish I could telecommute more regularly than once a week. The commute is brutal.

I'm the state govt attorney. We live in DC but rent, and are house hunting in Silver Spring.

I make 82k but work from home full time which is nice with 2 kids. My husband is a consultant so he's on my benefits.

I'm an experienced RN and make about $70K working 2 weekend shifts/week.

No, we do not. My husband is a LEO and I am disabled with a life-threatening illness, and am waiting for my hearing in a couple of months. He is getting ready to retire next month. However, we do own three homes, another business and co-own another business. Two of our homes are rental properties which pay for themselves. Three of our kids are adults, so we are not responsible for them. We live below our means, and always have. We've only been married for seven years, and have built up everything we have from nothing. You do not have to make 6 figures to be happy.

DH is 36 and makes $65k a year and is a lawyer. But he's in a public service job and loves what he does. He also only works 40 hours a week (although in an office).

what do you do working from home full time anywhere in the US and make 86k?

OP here - very nice NoVa suburb, $1 million+ homes. (I bought before the run-up, obviously.)

+1

We live in what DCUM would call a shit-shack. A well-maintained shit-shack in a really nice area with good schools, but it's small and old.

I'd say about half of them don't earn $100k, most are over 30, and most have graduate degrees. They're pure idealists who moved to DC to change the world. They work in museums, non-profits, and research fields.

No shame in their game. I feel like they could earn more, but are making a pure lifestyle choice based on principles.

NP -- but I assume this means they want to work in fields that "make a difference" which often don't pay that well. non-profits and such.
