Regret buying a big house?

Anonymous
I miss my prewar home that had normal-sized rooms. In the newer, bigger homes, the rooms tend to be so big and require giant furniture.

I also hate needing to drive for EVERYTHING. My husband really wanted a yard and I was happy in a condo in town. He has come around and agrees that we’ll go back to a condo that’s within walking distance of shops and restaurants eventually.

I agree with PPs that if you clean your own home, it's very possible to get too big. I clean my own home and I care a lot more about efficiency and good design than size. Those enormous bedrooms in particular bug me. All i can see is vacuuming and baseboards. I love handy closets, though, and I think it's good for kids over 10 or so to have their own rooms.

I’m the opposite. Wish we had gone slightly bigger. Our house is about 2200 sq feet with a basement that’s not very functional. I think btw 3500-4000 would be ideal for a family of 4.

4 people, 3 dogs, nearly 4000sqft on almost 2 acres. 3 car garage, large screened porch, pool, dedicated guest room, plenty of space and privacy.

It's nice. I wouldn't want to live in a smaller place. Maybe later, but not now.
