This is just for fun... The most rigorous HS program in DC area.

TJ benefits from economic privilege. Look at the FARMS rate. It's even lower than Langley. I hope FFX finds a way to diversify the school racially and economically. Obviously privates are not about racial and economic diversity however much they protest. TJ as a public institution is another story.

The kids who make up these schoolS are different than kids at TJ and Blair. More wealth versus immigrant strivers.[/b]

TJ parents don't understand this.

Sure they do. Schools like Sidwell and others rely on White privilege and connections. TJ parents are not stupid as some might have you believe.

I beg to differ.

Apples don't fall far from the tree.

Only the rotten apples fall from the tree...

Sweet and ripe apples fall from the tree and then some of them get attacked by harmful agents.

Fortunately, you cannot bribe your way into TJ unlike some colleges.

Fairfax is still trying with the "secret" admissions formula.

Do you think Sidwell is harder or easier than RM, Blair, TJ and PHS?

Easier than the public school magnets.

There is really no question that the public magnets are more rigorous than any local private, where a substantial number of average students are admitted solely on the basis of wealth and family connections.

RMIB most difficult.

Blair = Poolesville = TJ.

Blair most useful for building an impressive resume because they do the BEST JOB of entering into science competitions. They should be emulated by other schools.

IMHO.

Is Poolesville really as rigorous as Blair or TJ?

Absolutely. However, Blair magnet wins hand's down for entering competitions. Absolutely fantastic. Hat's off to them.

Intel Finalist this year was a senior from Richard Montgomery IB magnet program. RMIB is the hardest and most rigorous and combines both Humanities and Science. It is gruelling.

None of the private schools can compete academically with these programs, however, you have many more students going to Ivy League from private schools because of legacy and money. So, there's that.

Blar/RM are not comparable to TJ. TJ is in a class by itself.

Most of TJ kids can't get into Blair/RMIB and if they do, they won't last. Class by itself, yeah, sure.

When Blair or RM are ranked as highly as TJ, please come back and let us know. Until then,, you have no leg to stand on. TJ is the number one high school in the country, and other local schools, including Blair and RM, are looking up at TJ from a considerable distance with envy.

Undergrad is a breeze for many TJ graduates because of how rigorous the curriculum was through high school.

I would say that's true for any high school in NoVA which offers AP or IB. My DC, a Langley grad, says undergrad is easy due to the preparation given in high school.

Typical Junior schedule for TJ student:

1. AP Macro Economics
2. AP US History
3. AP Physics C
4. AP Chemistry (must take HN Chemistry before AP Chemistry)
5. Artificial Intelligence (post-ap)
6. Multivariable calculus/Linear Algebra (post-ap)
7. DNA Science (post-ap)
8. HN English (AP English not allowed in junior year)

This sounds a lot like my schedule for Whitman junior year, only we didn't have Artificial Intelligence or DNA Science. And I was not abnormal- plenty of kids had majority AP classes.
