My child is ain't the 4th grade at LAMB. Very pleased. |
Mice can do a lot of damage while you're not looking. Just because there are bigger, louder game doesn't mean you should ignore the mice. Eracism. |
Where do REAL RACISTS send their kids to school? Really you said that! |
If they are in the school and are a nuisance, then why shouldn't they be kicked out? |
Because it's compulsory public school and not Miss Winthrop Worthington's Finishing School for Manners and Charm? Do you not live in the United States? Seriously curious. This kind of question is something my Ghanaian friend would ask. |
Don't kids get expelled from public schools all over the USA? Do you not possess the ability to think critically, or to refrain from spurious questions in response to an opinion that differs from your own? |
Fact is DCPS removed 3 and expelled 1 in 10,000 because it has a public responsibility to education all students, no matter their behavior.
Charters getting rid of 272 (72 per 10,000) is just their way of preserving their bottom lines because DC does not give them enough money to deal with high need cases. |
Yes, all over the U S A kids get expelled from public school -- for serious violations. They do not get forever kicked out of taxpayer-funded, compulsory public school for being annoying. Your writing style, word choice (nuisance, USA, possess the ability vs. "have") suggests you are not from or even in the United States. You -could- be from a country where free, compulsory K-12 education isn't the norm. This could be why you do not possess the ability to assimilate and view your current environment in the District of Columbia using an intellectually rigorous framework to analyze present considerations and normative customs. |
NP here. I'd like to ask you: do YOU not possess the ability to think critically? What do you think happens to children who are expelled? Have you heard of the school-to-prison pipeline? These kids need help, not to be turned out to the streets. They need LOTS of help, in many cases. If they don't get it, it is worse for our society. |
If a child is kicked out (or counselled out = encouraged to withdraw under threat of expulsion, which happens all.the.time at charters and some DCPS), if a child does leave, the per pupil funding ABSOLUTELY SHOULD FOLLOW for the rest of the year. All of the remaining funding. It should be allocated in thirds and for all those kids counselled out after count day, the last 2/3 goes where the child goes. That is only fair. |
It would also be fair if DCPS distributed funds in an equal way to each DCPS. There are huge differences in per pupil funding depending on the school. If anyone can explain the "formula" I would love to hear it. DCPS bases their allocations on estimated enrollment, not actual counts, anyway. The whole thing is very loosey goosey and I doubt highly whether taking $4000 or $9000 from a charter and giving it to a DCPS is going to make any difference at all. |
It is certain that they need help but not at the expense of every other student's education. I think there should be separate educational facilities for students who continually disrupt the education of others despite multiple interventions to help them assimilate. And of course if said student poses a safety risk to others then they should immediately be placed in another facility IMO. |
Two River is most certainly Title 1. |
I agree that these kids need help but not at the expense of every other kid. There should be separate classrooms and even schools in the worst cases for kids who continually disrupt classes or who endanger other kids. |
NP here: I really dislike when people do this. You realize that there are plenty of "foreign" people living here and well versed in customs of this country. Just because we don't get syntax exactl right or use different words doesn't mean we aren't intellegent. In fact, someone who is fluent in several languages might be more intellegent on average. But, the argument isn't about language - you are just using that to distract from the actual topic. Which is what people do when they have no real argument left. |
