The real reason MCPS is closing is because there would be a lot of absences on that day if they didn't. Or do you think that MCPS celebrates Christmas?

So what-- are they going to call it "high expected absence day" on the calendar?

Winter Break and Spring Break.

That is the perfect solution. Good for them!

Except, geniuses, that Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur generally occur in September. Are we now going to have 1-2 days of "Fall break"? And is that really fooling anyone, or respectful of people's intelligence? I resent that Spring break is moved around to match Easter every year, and telling me we don't have Good Friday off, we just have Spring break, doesn't really change anything.

Nah - they don't care about other religions. I'm sure they are happy now that they got the Jewish and Christian holidays wiped off the calendar.

It is all about Sharia law-they want one solid Muslim nation-and if we are not careful the US will become just that.....Scary!

If a Christian or Jew made a similar request in a Muslim nation they would be beheaded!

21:12, you are correct.

Christmas is already a holiday in several Muslim nations.

Are the Montgomery County muslims going to start speaking out against muslim extremism and anti-semitism? Or just rail against calendars?????

They do, though of course there should always be more.

I'm not sure how that is relevant to the issue at hand.

Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur - School Closed.

Christmas - Winter Break

Easter / Passover - Spring Break or School Closed depending on how the holidays fall on the calendar.

Not a big change. Same days off just the name changed to take out the religious reference.

I always love how Christians think that non-Christians asking for equal recognition of their holidays are considered alien, disrespectful, should go back home or just learn to live with recognition for Christian holidays and no recognition of their own.

But if you try to make well wishes generic and inclusive like "Happy Holidays" it's a war on Christmas/Christianity.

So despite the fact the the founding fathers wanted equal respect for all religions, this subset of modern Christians only want respect for Christianity. How charitable.

They should call this fall siesta and be done with it-The Muslims will then complain that the school lunches are not Halal!

She also protested the recent diversity survey because it didn't include a category for asexuality.

Who hired this idiot?

I would rather scrap all the religious references than note Muslim holidays-but I think the Muslims need to realize that this country was founded on Judeo-Christian values, not Muslim ones. I pray this country will NEVER become Muslim centric-then it will be time to flee as it will no longer be America!

It's plenty relevant. MCPS does not allow tests to be administered on Muslim holidays, and it's an excused absence. It's not as though concessions haven't been made.

Love this comment from one of the articles on this matter-
Excellent!!!!!

"Muslim parents demanded the abolition of pork in all the school cafeterias of Ath in Belgium.

Marc Duvivier the mayor of Ath refused, and the town clerk sent a note to all parents to explain why.

"Muslims must understand that they have to adapt to Belgium, its customs, its traditions, its way of life, because that's where they chose to immigrate.

They must understand that they have to integrate and learn to live in Belgium.

They must understand that it is for them to change their lifestyle, not the Belgians who so generously welcomed them.

They must understand that the Athois are neither racist nor xenophobic, they accepted many immigrants before Muslims (whereas the reverse is not true that Muslims do not accept non-Muslim foreigners on their soil).

That no more than other nations, the Belgians are not willing to give up their identity, their culture.

And if Belgium is a land of welcome, it's not Marc Duvivier that welcomes foreigners, but the Belgian people as a whole.

Finally, they must understand that in Belgium with its Judeo-Christian roots, Christmas trees, churches and religious festivals, religion must remain in the private domain. The municipality of Ath was right to refuse any concessions to Islam and Sharia.

For Muslims that disagree with secularism and do not feel comfortable in Belgium, there are 57 beautiful Muslim countries in the world, most of them under-populated and ready to receive them with open halal arms in accordance with Shariah.

If you left your country for Belgium, and not for other Muslim countries, it is because you have considered that life is better in Belgium than elsewhere.

Ask yourself the question, just once, "Why is it better here in Belgium than where you come from?"

pork is part of the answer"
