So more magnet kids = more NMS. If 1/2 the blair kids are non-magnet then not many magnet kids are NMS as compared to TJ (proportionally). |
TJ is not comparable to Montgomery Blair.
Not to mention that "number of National Merit Semi-Finalists" is not on the list of measures I would use to compare FCPS to MCPS -- but certainly you can, if you want to. |
For the class of 2011 the Blair magnet had 32, TJ had 125, roughly the same when scaled for class size. The SAT scores for Blair were 2220 and TJ were 2200, so again almost the same. |
I did 2011 because I could easily grab the numbers, but I can't imagine that they changed much for this year. What this does show is that 90+% of the NMSF are from the magnet program. |
Virginia has TJ. MoCo has a over dozen magnet programs across multiple disciplines. Not at all comparable. |
Finally some real numbers. 90% or more sounds about right to me. And no, I do not live in Bethesda and not in a W cluster. |
And of the 90% there is still no breakdown of the local vs non-local students. or which magnet program they are from. |
Get some sleep. Stop obsessing. |
The numbers were from the 100 person magnet at Blair; no other program. No way to tell how many were local vs. non-local. |
If they are in the Magnet program, why is it important to know whether they were local or non-local. They tested in. No matter where they live. |
Thanks! I needed that scolding. |
+1. Who cares where they are from? Why is this important? |
Again, multiple magnets reaching from different areas. Bethesda mom was trying to imply that only the county wide tech magnet kids were nmsf. Are no CAP kids nmsf? I agree it is time to let this rest now. |
I checked, and anywhere from 2-5 CAP kids are NMSF each year. |
+1 My son graduated from CAP a few years ago - in his class there were five. |
