I'm the OP and I'm pretty amazed this thread has made it to 7 pages too!
You know, my mother used to iron everything, and I was perfectly happy to wear neatly ironed clothes. Until I had to start doing the ironing, and discovered that if I choose my clothing carefully, things don't get so obviously wrinkled. Now, I really don't think I look wrinkly most days, even though the most I might do is shake out something after the dryer and put it on a hanger, or lay it flat in a drawer. I do understand that some people feel better if their things are organized. I'm just not like that. Happy Thanksgiving everyone! (And only fold on Thanksgiving if it gives you pleasure!) |

I don't even know where my iron is... I think I have one somewhere, though.
I'm an obsessive folder/ hanger. Straight out the dryer, every single time. I would lose my everloving mind if a load of laundry sat around unfolded long enough to cool down. Many things get hung up, but many things get folded. I'm a jeans-and-tshirts kind of gal, so all that, obviously. All the kids' clothes. I mate my own socks, but no one else's. And as for spending time with the kids, er, they're with me. They pull their own socks and underwear and pajamas out of the pile and put them away while I'm folding everything else. They love to roll around and burrow in the warm clean clothes. And it takes no more than 5-10 minute per load, less for the socks/ underwear/ towels load. Compared to the endless misery of ironing. Oh, and I have my washer/dryer upstairs next to the bedrooms. Dryer to bed is about six steps. This makes things infinitely easier. This is my only housekeeping pleasure/ obsession. I have dust bunnies breeding in every corner. As Erma Bombeck said, "you can write your name on any surface in my house-- but please don't write the date." |
Have you been drinking? |
|
Can't imagine not folding laundry. I also iron my DH and sons dress shirts and khakis.
|
Can't imagine ironing my husband's clothes. |
| Am I the only one who's ditched ironing in favor of wrinkle spray? |
|
"Dryer to bed is about six steps."
Heaven! |
this describes me to. I don't particularly enjoy folding and most of it land in a pike and gets worn. Eventually I'll fold everything and I do like it when it's done, I just don't enjoy doing it. |
It must have hit a nerve, to merit such a blatant ad hominem attack. |
|
If you are speaking of sheets and towels, NEVER. Clothing, kinda, but not neatly really. My
DH folds towels, sheets, and other clothing he washes and dries. I barely do laundry. I just did two loads yesterday for the first time in months. |
I don't use wrinkle spray and don't iron---ever! DH irons his dress shirts for work. If something needs ironing really badly, then I take it to the dry cleaner. I will take things out of the dryer and hang them while warm, which often helps. |
| I actually love ironing, go figure. But I'm one of the posters who pays the housecleaners to fold. |
Isn't that why they have a dry cleaner? I guess I don't live in 1950 either. |
| I had no idea people still ironed. Also, I am surprised more people didn't respond that they just get dressed out of TE laundry basket. |
| That's what we do. Laundry room is in basement so mostly we get dressed from there! If you came over you would not see much clutter and there would be no baskets of laundry. It is all out of site. |
