Question about leaving dogs outside

Anonymous
I find that neurotic dogs are the barkers. My dog was smart as hell (poodle mix), but he was neurotic as hell. Barked at the smallest sound.

Mine is neurotic and smart as hell, too. But she only barks when provoked (person approaching house). Sleeps most of the day and plays with the cat when I'm at work 9-5. House guests confirm this and neighbors tell me they never hear her.

I wouldn't leave her outside all day alone, but it depends on the dog, the weather, the circumstances. Mine loves nothing more than to spend all day outside with me for company!

I leave my dogs outside every day unless it's below 20 or above 100. I get a baby pool for the summer and blankets/dog bed in a screened in porch for winter.

Why do you have a dog?

Why do you have a dog?

Protection, companionship, obligation

I would only do this with a dog door so the dog could go inside if needed, if you have a sufficient fence that the dog can't get over or under, dog isn't a barker, and there was water inside and out.

I wouldn't leave a dog unattended outside. A dog is a pet not a wild animal.

My dogs prefer it. I have an acre lot.

I would never. A friends dog was stolen this way. Also I'd be worried if another animal came into the yard, if my dog was bitten by something or injured herself. I cannot guarantee her safety outside so I am not comfortable with that. Plus she sleeps all day and she is quite happy sleeping in the comfort of home on the couch or in her bed

We also have cats, who have never stepped foot inside our house. It is not neglect, cruelty or abuse. They are ANIMALS and they are intended to be outside.

What do you get out of having these animals?

Yes I'd love to know what the point is. I have trees in my yard and I don't consider them pets! Do you play with them, walk them etc?
