Everyone has different taste, it's not horrible music, you just have to acquire a taste for it, kind of like wine or any other drinks.

Grew up in PG County and very familiar with Go Go and Chuck Brown! RIP Chuck Brown!!

Disturbing the peace.

It's a DC thing - if you don't like it, leave!

No need. That particular DC is fading. But really, it was only a DC thing for a few decades. There was a DC before and continues to be a DC after.

Hey transplant - the DC "before" and "now" really has nothing to do with you, regardless as to whether you moved here. So stop frontin' like you know something about it. You are a bama!

BAMAAAAAAAA

Well, complicated rhythms can have a certain interest, maybe, but there seems to me to be no melody.

Popular music has been driven to emphasize a downbeat at the expense of other elements for a long time now, which I think is a shame. Maybe the rhythm is a little more interesting with this stuff, but it's still mostly banging and little else to me.

I get the pride in local AA culture, but that wasn't always the dominant culture here and it really isn't any more. And I don't think this "music" holds up outside of nostalgia for this moment in DC's past.

Yeah. I don't know what you're talking about.

But I have the advantage of having coming from bigger and better cities while you grew up here when it was a crappy two-bit town. Good thing it's getting much better now.

Why does race have to be brought up? I'm white and didn't mind the Go Go music. Yes, it's nostalgic for some, but it's also because it has roots here in DC! It was and is part of the culture for some, black, white, asian, hispanic, etc. And I'm sorry to break to you honey, but DC is not all white, maybe your neighborhood is. When I walk around DC, I see lots of different ethnicity.

0:12 --- get over yourself! Who the hell do you think you are! Go back to slow podunk town and leave DC we'd be better without you!

Hmmmm... But you're the moron that moved to a two bit town.

GoGo is part of DC's heritage as a slow podunk town, from which it is only now recovering.

That "particular DC" is fading, but you should be saddened by it. I must say, that as DC has become whiter, its soul seems to have disappeared. I remember coming to DC and it was so fun and alive. Now it's just like any place else. No character.

And if you don't know what a bama is you should go back from whence you came, too!

And to everyone claiming this is a passing, black phase or something, it's part of this city's soul (says the white girl from MoCo). If you have a problem with DC, why are you here?

Bumping this amid the tmobile controversy. It has been resolved and gogo will continue to play at that corner in DC, as it always has.

For those who said "that particular DC is fading"... you cant erase an entire culture from a city.

GoGo is and will always be the heartbeat of DC.

Loved the quote in the Post yesterday. "There are Washingtoians. And there are people who have never heard of go-go." it's not a knock. But if you grew up here, you'd understand.

I didn’t grow up here and I understand. Hoochie Man is always in my rotation. I went to an HBCU and was introduced to it there.

I am choking over here about jazz not including vocals. Ever hear of Bille Holiday? Ella Fitzgerald? Sarah Vaughan? Nancy wilson?
