Green Hedges was been wonderful for my 4.5yo son. |
Congressional Camp has been wonderful for my rising 3rd grader! The counselors have been fabulous, and my daughter has REALLY enjoyed herself this summer. She has told us that this camp experience has been the best she's ever had. |
For a sleep over camp I highly recommend Sandy Hill Camp on the Chesapeake Bay (water skiing, sailing, horses, etc.). This camp is especially good for 1st time, young (4th-5th grade) campers. Plus, it’s a Sunday to Friday camp which helps for 1st time campers. The camp is very organized and the counselors are excellent. They really care about the kids and know what to do if a kid is homesick. |
My daughter loves Cultures and Cuisines at Beauvoir. She is normally a kid with separation anxiety, but she has done great there - no tears or clinging - bounces out of the car smiling from car line every morning! |
Do they have girls and boys there or just girls? |
Both. www.sandyhillcamp.com |
We had a bad experience the camp at the Potomac School in McLean this summer. Never, ever again.
We did have a very good experience at the Beauvoir camp this summer. Big difference. |
Interesting comment about the camp at the Potomac School. My son really disliked his experience there last year at the Nature Science camp when he was 7. He still says that it was the worst camp he's ever been to. Which of their camps was your child in? |
It's too late for many of the programs, but look into Georgetown Day School Summer Programs. It's a small program, and the teachers are very attentive. |
I'm also curious about the feedback on the Potomac School camp. DD was there this year for six weeks (three in one program, three in another) and seemed to have enjoyed her time there. But I think she liked the program at Camp Greenway at Madeira better, and we'll probably spend more time there next year. |
Did your daughter ride horses at Camp Greenway? We are looking for horse programs for next summer. |
No, she didn't. She's not old enough yet, but I'm sure it's something she'll want to do when she is old enough. I hear there's some sort of lottery system to getting into their riding camp, but I don't know much more about it. |
Burgundy Farm: VERY VERY VERY DISAPPOINT
I don't think Burgundy Farm summer camp is a go. There were so many things and incidents made my 5-yo DS upset and didn't want go back to the camp. 1. He got lock up in bathroom and he cried for a long time nobody knew where he was. 2. He stripped and got scratch then went home with open wound. No couselor knew what happened to him or give him a bandaid. 3. Long and unorganized pick up lines. 4. Unseen any adults to oversee young counselors. He cried just wanted to go home at middle of the day sometimes. That was never happened and he wanted to stay around for longer when he was at the other school. He was so happy it was end. My DS is attending at a different private school but I like him to tried summer at another private school to see the different btw those private schools. Luckily I signed him up for only half the session. The program was not as advertised. They watched tv 3 days in a row. I thought program they said in brochure should be a week long but it happened only 1 day. Now I suspect that there is someone sitting there and type all good thing about Burgundy Farm school since there are so many nice posts about Burgundy and few about other schools. |
My 3.5 year old really liked Levine Music Camp (Strathmore). She was in extended care and of the camps she attended this summer, all with long days, Levine was the only one I would really recommend for a young preschool age child requiring extended care days. Very nurturing. She had a lot of fun at Sidwell but the extended care program was a little more high energy and less nurturing than a 3.5 year old with no nap needed. She would have loved Sidwell as a part day camper. Great teacher in the day program and fun activities. I think at 4.5, the fuller days would go better. |
My eight year old son did Landon boys camp this summer and that was his favorite. My six year old liked Somerset the best. Sidwell was good too. |
