Private & Independent Schools
| Bullis definitely used to be a HUGE jock school. Are they not now? |
Bullis became more academically rigorous (and respected, I think) under the prior administration. Athletically, as a co-ed school with smaller numbers of boys and girls than the single-sex schools in their conferences (IAC for boys, ISL for girls) they have been mostly middle of the pack (with some exceptions) in the last decade. The new Head has made it clear he wants Bullis to excel in high profile sports like football and basketball. He has told people that within three years Bullis football will not lose a league game. Bullis brought in a high profile football coach and this year a star running back who transferred from a WCAC school. Expect much more of that. The word is that the Head has said that any applicant with a GPA at a certain level (B+, maybe? don't know for sure) can be admitted without regard to their SSAT score -- that will open up the recruiting pool. Basketball is also a high priority sport at Bullis, and take a look at the lacrosse standings this year. Haven't seen the same attention to sports on the girls' side but who knows, maybe that will come. It could be a smart thing to do for marketing--it remains to be seen how it will play out in terms of the academics. |
Oh gross. Bullis will be the school, once again, that people send their kids to if they aren't smart enough to get into the good privates in the area. |
