We recd our daughter's NNAT scores yesterday, I have to say I was very dissapointed, he scored 119 and in the 88%.
He is 1 grade level higher in math and reading (confirmed by both KG and First grade teacher) and has been recommended for advanced math and reading clubs in his school.
He is very creative and extremely smart, not sure if he could make the pool next year with these scores:

Your daughter or your son? Confused.

Anyway, BOTH of my kids scored lower than that on the NNAT (they were 2nd graders when they took it) and BOTH are in the Center now & doing extremely well. One was in the pool based on CogAT scores and one was a parent referral. A 119/88% on the NNAT is not great, but is not dismal either. The GBRS is extremely important if your child has test scores across the board in that range, though. So it depends a lot on what the CogAT scores are next year - if those are in a similar range (ie, high 80s/low 90s percentiles), you are going to need a GBRS higher than 12, I would think. And if the CogAT is much higher, you should have a good chance.

FWIW, last year my DC had scores in that range (115-120) with one outlier score (130) that got her in the pool, and a GBRS of 12. Denied first round. In on appeal with a WISC 131. It tells me that the group tests administered at school do not always approximate true IQ (which WISC does measure) and committee respects the WISC. If you have doubts, shell out for a privately administeted WISC.always

Pp here. If it matters, my son has ADHD and I suspect that is why he performed so much better on the WISC (individually administered by psychologist) as compared to the NNAT and CogAt (group administered at school).

My son is 1st grader. He scored 99 percentile for the NNAT. But we just received his report card last week and he has a lot of "N's in the behavior categories. The only good things were math, reading, and PE. The teacher has complained about his lack of concentration in school
I bet the teacher's rating will be very low...

You should seriously consider having him evaluated for ADHD . . . there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Agreed, but when a child has exceptional ability and is performing below average, it is a red flag.

So, my daughter scored 135, is in first grade, social, adjusted and enjoying school. We were at White Oaks last year and LOVED it. But we are at Kings Park this year and are not nearly as happy. Also, while my kid is smart as hell, I just don't get the gifted thing. I was a public school teacher (ACPS) for 6 years, before starting my own business, and didn't get it then either. There is a range to everything. IQ is just one measure. Anyway, we are taking our kiddo out of Kings Park beginning next Wednesday. Gonna put her into a private school, and not because it is, "challenging", but because it is a much more relaxed environment. My kid was born smart. I've known that from day one. This Dad is going to take out the excessive push for more, and introduce a bit of "learning is fun."

It is too bad as a new teacher you were not able to receive training in gifted education. If you are interested, you may want to read some of the excellent materials posted on the Hoagies site.

I am not sure if the 135 you cite is from an achievement test vs. an IQ test. (As a teacher, you obviously know the differences between these measures.) You may want to revisit the distinctions:

I hope you and your child are happier in private school compared to Kings Park!

Not everyone scored 99%! We just got my daughter's score. She got 36 out of 48 and is in the 88th percentile (she's on the young side). She actually did as well as I thought she would. I never thought of her as gifted and would not expect or want her in AAP. She does fine in general ed. (I read on here mostly because of my other child who is in AAP.)

How refreshing! Kudos to you, and your normalcy.

Y'know, it's not like everyone who cares about AAP & wants their child to get in ISN'T normal.

My daughter got 33/48, which is 104 on the Naglieri ability index and puts her in the 60th percentile.

Last year, my DS was 103 for Naglieri, which seemed suspiciously low to us. We had him evaluated soon after, not for academic reasons but for ADHD (positive diagnosis). He scored 127 on the WISC administered in that office. This year, he scored 127 composite on the CogAT. Bottom line, I don't have a lot of faith in the Naglieri, particularly when administered in first grade.
