How old are you?

I mean, the fifty year old could have a 3 year old or a 20 year old. 38 with a 15 year old.

Well, we talk about more than just kids. That discussion about whether or not Prince Charles is even remotely attractive, for example, only makes sense with reference to the participants' ages.

Why? You think have an opinion on his appeal no matter your age. I mean you can get a man's appeal with out actually being within his exact age range. You must be very young.

*sigh* it's as though the women's movement never happened on this board, honestly.

I don't think they are necessarily young. I am a younger poster. Most of my friends would not say something as ignorant as this. I think this poster is probably older, lives way out in the burbs, and thinks that only women who remember Lady Diana could have an opinion on whether or not Prince Charles is ugly. Since the younger ladies on here could not have enough life experience from under their rock to form their own opinions... Duh.

Honestly, I don't understand what age has to do with knowing that Prince Charles has a bird nose and was a pretentious asshole for thinking Camilla Parker Bowles had game over Princess Di... But that's just me!

I'm the poster who says only older ladies can possibly find P.C. attractive. This would be because, at 62, he is an elderly man. I don't think men of this age can broadcast any sort of general appeal once they've gone all turkey-necked.

I fail to see any sort of connection to the women's movement, but if you're stretching, then if anything, women should be pleased that we no longer have to admire older men who have aged past all outward indications of potency but consider themselves to deserve sweet tender young things for their old guy pleasures.

For the record, I'm 37, live in Adams Morgan, somewhat remember Diana, but mostly think the guy looks my dad. I assure you, no one has found *him* attractive in decades. Old guy-ness cancels out other possible qualities to all observers except, well, ladies in perhaps the upper reaches of middle age. These would also be the ones of an age to make allusions to "the women's movement" as if there was only one.

Oh dear. Age is, indeed, just a number and it is possible that your experience of potency and its wide variation is quite limited. You seem to be very dismissive of anyone middle aged. You haven't lived long enough to have the wisdom to hear how foolish you sound.

Come on! We are arguing about the sexual attractiveness of Prince Charles this whole thing is foolish. There has been hyperbole and, in typical DCUM fashion, accusations of anti-feminist tendencies. I think the point is: no matter how old you are, the Prince of Wales is ugly; we are all different ages spanning from early 20's to late 50's; we all think we are far more self-important than we could ever be in real life. The end.

And maybe in your knees.

33 with an almost 5-year old. Just now getting around to trying for #2 (although we are currently on hold for a few months for various reasons). Most moms I meet in this area have their kids when they are a little bit older, so when I meet one under 30, I'm a bit surprised.

I thought there were more of you around my age...

There are a lot of things that make a LOT more sense, and this puts a lot of DCUM into better perspective for me now.

I had no idea there were many under 30 on this board, so this puts things in perspective for me too. This is an urban area, and women typically wait to have their first child. I can honestly say I know 2 women under 30 who have given birth around here. In my office, I got pregnant at 31 and was by the far the youngest in my company.

A lot of women establish their careers first and get grad degrees around here. At 26 I was in a cube somewhere. At 32 when I returned to work from maternity leave I had my own office to pump in, could negotiate a reduced schedule, etc. Worked better for me. Not to mention my income allowed us to actually put DD in daycare, which would not have been an option at 26 (I wouldn't be able to afford to work and I knew I always wanted to be a WM).

I was just getting married at 26 and working on my graduate degree. And I know I got the side eye from several people who thought I was too young to have a baby at 28.

Now I get the side eye because we have only one nearly 5 years later. There are many reasons, but finances definitely play a role. Having a second for us would mean no room for retirement or other savings. My income from my PT job allows us to do a little saving, and I would be a terrible FT SAHM (not to mention the stress of knowing we weren't doing any savings living on just my husband's income).

No. Prince William is balding and not as hot as he was as a teen. Prince Harry has turned out to be the hottie (and has that cute bad-boy thing going!).

I'm an early 20's PP and that's why I'm on this site- I got drawn in by the nuttiness of the women in the nanny forum.
