And the advocates for changing it have no academic basis for their offense. So what is your agenda here? |

The time of replies on this thread are interesting.
People argue about the calendar bc they have to work/take leave from work/etc, yet they’re free enough AT work to argue on DCUM all day? |
My kids are in HS so this isn't about taking time off work. It is simply about education quality. |
My agenda is FCPS shouldn’t waste hundreds of thousands of dollars that should be in their students households— because income IS linked to educational outcomes, and has been studied extensively. Also as a homeowner in FCPS it’s in my interest our school system isn’t a joke. |
Can you provide academic data to show that in FCPS this year’s calendar has caused lower academic achievement due to the financial burden the calendar has placed on households? |
Academically there's no reason to have so many disjointed days off. I have not met a single parent who is happy with the calendar. You're right that most people aren't extremely vocal, but none are happy. Nearly everyone is very unhappy with it. Just Americans are a passive bunch and we aren't going to protest and riot. |
Again, this is soecific to YOU. This has not financially burdened every household. Some people are well off enough to afford the additional care, some aren’t. Some people have grandma watch the kids on those days, some pay someone else. Some leave their kids home alone, some take off work. It doesn’t hurt some families, it unfortunately cripples others. There is no perfect calendar. |
First, let’s hear your agenda in avoiding change. Who does it benefit to try to shut down efforts to change the calendar? |
Poor shaming. Almost made it to Bingo… |
| As a family, I think a big downside to the disjointed days off is that there isn't a solid week (other than winter or Easter) for a family to take a trip. Why can't we combine some days so we get a full week off in February and October? |
“None are happy” “Nearly everyone is very unhappy” These statements are literally the definition of an anecdotal fallacy. You can’t speak for hundreds of thousands of people. There are literally posters on this thread who have no problem with it. Yes, you and your circle and the people you have talked to dislike it, but you truly have no idea what percentage or amount of people hate it vs love it. |
Comparisons are not shaming the poor. Give your trolling a rest… |
Seriously! Let's hear it from you. The rest of us don't like the discontinuity for a whole host of reasons we have been discussing. |
The board said in September they had an unprecedented number of complaints about the calendar, and that was before the snow days. Thats pretty reliable data. |
“An unprecedented number” is a qualitative statement, the exact opposite of quantitative data. |
