It’s just all trump theater:
TSA is largely funded by a tax on every ticket. It adds $5.60 to every one-way ticket & $11.20 to roundtrips. Everyone in line right now is already paying the TSA fee, even for free reward travel. The government has previously diverted that money to the Treasury. Send the money where it’s meant to go, to the tsa agents. Don’t let trump take our tax money.

Thune even offered to end it and fund the TSA qithout ICE and Trump said no. The Rs could have a spine but they have shown very much they don't.

So you’re going to take the long TSA lines and then add another long line before travelers even get to the TSA line so ICE can do a task that TSA will also be doing. Brilliant! Only a MAGA could come up with such a brilliant plan!

They aren't going to be doing screening duties. But since long airport lines threaten the markets, which is a national security issue, I would expect ICE to start clubbing people in the most egregious Spirit Airlines queues until wait times improve. That's something ICE does very well.

Heres the thing. Weve already paid for TSA. Its funded by ticket sales. https://www.cnn.com/2026/03/23/us/tsa-funding-security-fees-workers

And as noted in the article, it should be completed funded by the ticket sale fees but because of the 2013 budget act about a billion goes towards the interest/debt payments so then Congress has to appropriate the remaining.
