Everything written above is demonstrably true. Men skate much faster. Everything happens more quickly. It requires a higher level of skill. The game is significantly more violent. Have you not watched hockey?

There isn’t a player on the USA women’s team that could make a men’s college roster at Michigan State or North Dakota.

+1. PS. It's the same with women's basketball and softball. Sure, it's fun to watch your daughters play, but don't expect complete strangers to get excited about watching the games.

It’s a chicken and egg problem though. A big factor in generating excitement is how the game is presented. I’ve been riveted by obscure events like bullriding and surfing where I get totally invested in the outcome, because the commentators take the time to explain the fine points of the sport and make us care about the athletes. It doesn’t have to be the highest level of the sport to be worth covering. Lots of people tune in to the LLWS every year. If women’s sports were broadcast as exciting and worthwhile, fans would feed off of that.

Follow the money. There is the NBA and the WNBA. They both have a fan base and they both generate income, but more of the fans seem to prefer watching the NBA and that is fine. It is an entertainment choice.

One person wants to watch Disney, another wants to watch Star wars and another wants to watch John wick. There's a market for all of them but the markets are different sizes.

It's not exactly an entertainment choice. Remember that speech in the Devil Wears Prada...well, your preference to watch men's sports is more of the same. You are being spoon-fed by the billionaire team owners, the media, the sponsors, and on.

Huh? I'm capable of making my own entertainment choices. I've gone to multiple middle school track meets .... I clearly understand that those are only entertaining to myself and the other parents that are there. Outside of that no one is interested nor should they be.

Apples and oranges. There’s a big difference between attending an event live with schoolchildren and lots of boring down time, versus watching a continuous-action event on TV with professional athletes where it’s been heavily edited and packaged with camera angles, slow motion replays, commentary, background pieces on the athletes, etc. Or watching it live in an arena with lasers and music and concessions and a giant, enthusiastic crowd. Of course the latter is going to be a lot more entertaining. Money makes a game feel more important.

We're going to have to agree to disagree. I enjoy watching women's hockey, but I am fine if someone else does not enjoy it.

Some fans are just going to prefer one event over another regardless of how many lights or lasers or music tracks you include at the event.

For many fans, that’s part of the experience. The NHL would have fewer fans if it wasn’t televised, nobody knew anything about the athletes, and it was limited to 8 teams scattered around two different countries.

If you think you can make a profit investing in ice hockey and specifically women's ice hockey, good luck. I think it's a great youth, College college, club and Olympic sport. I don't know how much growth potential it has as a pro level money maker.

I don't think the men did any favors for the sport in general by aligning themselves with maga.

No one is minimizing their grit and achievement. If they chose to attend the State of the Union, they would have been celebrated just as much. Also, remember that a reason the men's team has received a lot of media attention is because they haven't won a gold since 1980. Women's has won 3 golds, 4 silvers, and 1 bronze since just 1998.

DP. No they would have been mocked. Republicans hates women’s sports and women in general. We all know Trump would have attacked them.

The US men’s team is just a bunch maga cult member. A true embarrassment to this nation.

You obviously know nothing about Republicans. It’s interesting that liberals accuse conservatives of being divisive when the opposite is true. Republicans are some of the biggest supporters of women’s sports these days. Please don’t make things up just because you’re uninformed.

I actually laughed out loud at the PP’s claim. Zero self-awareness.

“Republicans are some of the biggest supporters of women’s sports these days”, then we get an entire thread telling us why women’s hockey is boring, niche, and unprofitable.

Anonymous wrote:The 2026 Olympics gave America two gold medals in hockey. And then one locker room took something away from all of us.

I am not surprised by him. But I am deeply disappointed in them.

After winning gold in a dramatic overtime victory, the U.S. men's hockey team celebrated in the locker room, joined, inexplicably, by FBI Director Kash Patel. While Kash was shot gunning beers in the locker room, he patched in President Trump on speakerphone. Trump invited the men to the State of the Union. Then, referring to the women's team, who had also just won gold, who had broken records, who had carried this country on their backs, he said he'd 'have to' bring them too, or he'd 'probably be impeached.' The room laughed. Every single one of them.

I won't pretend to be surprised. We know who he is. We've always known.

But I am disappointed, deeply disappointed, in the silence of those young men in that locker room.

Because days earlier, those same players did something beautiful. They brought Johnny Gaudreau's little girl onto the ice. Johnny, their teammate, their brother, a man who should have been on that ice with them. For one sacred moment, his daughter stood where he once stood, on Olympic ice, wrapped in the love of a team that hadn't forgotten him. Every person watching felt it. It was the kind of moment that reminds you what sport is really for.

And then, just days later, when the President of the United States turned the gold-medal-winning women of Team USA into a punchline, not one of those men said a word. They laughed.

As a father, I can't get it out of my mind. I think about my own daughter. I think about the little girl I watch grow every single day, who is already full of fire and fight and limitless possibility. I think about what it means for her to grow up in a world where women can win gold medals, break records, and still be treated as an afterthought, a punchline, by the most powerful man in the room. And I think about Johnny's little girl, who just days before had stood on that ice in her father's memory, held up by these very men as a symbol of everything worth fighting for.

And still. Not one word.

I have to believe, I choose to believe, that somewhere in that locker room, there were young men with a pit in their stomach. Men who felt it. Who knew better. Who thought of their daughters, their sisters, their nieces, and thought of Johnny's girl, standing on that ice just days before. Men who had the moral clarity in their hearts but not the courage to let it reach their voice. Who chose the comfort of silence over the discomfort of conviction.

Speaking up when someone is diminished in front of you, even when it's uncomfortable, even when the room is laughing, even when the most powerful person in the world is on the other end of the phone, that is what moral courage looks like. That is what we owe each other.

Those women were extraordinary. They didn't just win gold, they made history. They played with a ferocity and grace that left the entire world in awe. They broke records. They made little girls everywhere believe that there are no limits to what they can become. They made my little Charlotte believe. They gave this country something to be genuinely, unambiguously proud of. And they deserved every bit of the moment that was stolen from them in that locker room.

#Michael Garrett North Carolina Senate
To the athletes who did speak truth to power, who stood on the world's greatest stage and showed us the very best of what America can be, we see you. We are proud of you. And we are forever grateful.

There have always been those among us with the courage to stand up, speak out, and refuse to go silent when it matters most. Be that person. The world needs more of them.

This expresses that moment and the meaning of it so incredibly well. Thank you for sharing.

So the women, who have to hold other jobs due to low pay, should be celebrated and not just with an afterthought incitation because T thinks he will be impeached.

The men are lame if this was their first medial and they get paid north of $775k per year. The women just recently had their first six-figure salary and have to have other jobs.

Men rewarded for mediocrity as usual.

Perhaps the men should play the women. You know, equal rights and all. Everyone could throw their salaries in escrow and the winner takes all.

Men get paid more because their league generates significantly more revenue.

Are you actually that stupid that you don't realize all the sexist reasons they currently generate more revenue?

Would you list the "sexist reasons?"

No. MAGA should learn to Google and think critically. You always want welfare.

It isn’t real without links. Nice try bot.

Yes. PP doesn't know any "sexist reasons."

Here's one: the men's hockey game is more exciting. Is that sexist? We enjoyed both games at my house, but the men's was definitely much more exciting.

That is not sexist. Sports are basically entertainment and you are completely free to choose to watch the thing that you find most entertaining. That still doesn't mean the president of the United States should have belittled the accomplishment of the women's team.

He did not belittle their accomplishments. He made a dumb joke, “you know I have to invite the girls too,” like they are all in kindergarten. And of course the men laughed.

Truly unbelievable that you don't understand that this "dumb joke" is the entire issue.

No, that is not the issue, as much as you might want to deflect away from the wrongful behavior of men and make this about something you can blame women for, as usual. Sad.

Because, just like men's pro hockey, it boring as heck unless you have great seats to see a game in person or you're some hillbilly from rural Minnesota.

Any woman who thinks it is okay to just support men's teams only because it is their "entertainment choice" is an idiot.

Yes, and why won't more Americans buy tickets support women's competitive woodworking? So unethical!

As usual, the left is making something out of nothing. The remark was harmless. If Trump had not mentioned the women at all, the left would have made a big deal about that. If he made a big speech about how wonderful the women’s team is, while he was talking to in the men’s team, the left would’ve found something to pick at just like they are picking at this. If Trump said pass, the catch-up, leftists would say that is somehow racist or sexist. In the locker room phone call he acknowledged both teams, and you can hear the men players cheering for the women’s success as well as their own. Instead of sharing fake outrage every time Trump takes a breath, you should save your energy for when people from both political spectrums say something that is actually offensive.

I'm surprised Trump didn't insist on going into the women's locker rooms while they were dressing.

He acknowledged both teams but said he should probably invite the women's team to the WH else he'd get impeached, as in, the women's team is an after thought even though they've won more gold than the men's team.

Trump sees most women, including Ivanka, as objects.
