Why can’t people see that Trump wants to be an authoritarian?

We don’t/didn’t need more laws. I don’t like Trump, but he solved this problem in weeks by closing the boarder, and making a few calls to the Mexican president telling her to turn those people around. Now, no one even tries to enter the southern border illegally.

But there IS data that his completely performative, authoritarian and violent tactics have left communities shattered and allowed other crimes (sex trafficking being a big one) to proliferate. What was really needed, so that entire cities weren’t being invaded and attacked by these thugs and lowlifes was the funding and bipartisan cooperation that the legislation provided. The border stats are reported, you can find them yourself. Also, the networks during Biden used to cover the caravans traveling through Mexico, they must have magical just stopped broadcasting this b/c they love Trump, right?

And no one’s life has improved. Why aren’t my groceries more expensive since Trump “closed” the border? Why is my power bill so much higher? The only thing that’s dropped in price is the Fentanyl that seems to be even more abundant despite Trump executing random Venezuelans for a year.

Not to be a Debbie downer, but the news part started under Biden. They talked about Biden falling down and eating ice cream, but we all to pretend he wasn’t declining. We all had to pretend that the lab leak theory was a crazy conspiracy theory. While it was bonkers to believe China released the virus to get Trump, the reality that it could have been from a lab should have been discussed.

While I thought it was a good idea at the time to freeze out certain people from the news, the result is that we sat by, expecting the news not to say things the authorities didn’t want said. We opened the door for this, and now it’s a shitshow.

My theory is many of his followers have been abused and the abusive tactics feel familiar. It’s like when the child of a substance abuser marries a substance abuser. The drama and stress all feels familiar so this is what they seek out.

In the case of Cubans, my theory is they like the perception of strength and a dictator gives that perception.

For Mexican Americans who voted for him, my suspicion is they believe he is against abortion.

For white people, I believe they blame brown people for their own failures and lack of initiative.

For others, I think they want someone else to do their thinking for them so they do not have to be responsible for their own decisions.
