Not true. A few select programs are hard transfers, most are not. |
| That's why I chose Michigan State over Michigan. I was able to try out different majors |
Well said. Critical thinking is out the window, but a fool and his money are soon parted. |
| The "select programs" are the reason to choose U of Michigan. Otherwise, no. For a general admit at that OOS price, no. imo |

There is no school worth $400,000.
If you want to stop the insanity cease all financial aid and require every student to borrow the full COA from the federal government. If their parents give them money to pay tuition, tax students at the rate each gift would trigger as a single paycheck. |
I suggest you just stay at home and leave the critical thinking to those who employ it. |
….since I wasn’t accepted into Ann Arbor….. |
| The time to form an opinion re: is it worth it, is well before your student applies. |
Rest assured, I have most likely come more around than you. |

Is any college education worth $400k?
Note: I can report that the tuition is just a part of it. We are spending a small fortune on off-campus housing, food, (ahem) entertainment, etc. in a supposedly affordable area…it’s obscene. I wonder if the money would have been better spent on investments to supplement my kid’s future earnings following a less expensive college path (eg, community college followed by in-state flagship). |

Currently Michigan costs about 346K for 4 years. Not 400K FACT |
Critical thinking is the process of analyzing available facts, evidence, observations, and arguments to make sound conclusions or informed choices. It involves recognizing underlying assumptions, providing justifications for ideas and actions, evaluating these justifications through comparisons with varying perspectives, and assessing their rationality and potential consequences.[1] The goal of critical thinking is to form a judgment through the application of rational, skeptical, and unbiased analyses and evaluations You did none of the above. |
I'm not sure this is much of a difference and you'll end up spending thousands more over 4 years on flights and also on off-campus housing and food. You start out thinking your kid will live in dorms and then suddenly you're paying a small fortune for apartments that are on 12 month leases. As a previous poster mentioned, other large costs accrue. |
| this thread could benefit by having people name the selective valuable programs, schools, and majors, etc. |
