UCLA now…Trump

What is your opinion on the anti-semitism pot of $170ish million that Trump is pursuing for Jewish students at UCLA (not to mention the millions Columbia is already forking over to Jewish students).

Doesn’t it just create more resentment?

This is fascism.

Where are all the colleges? Only like 16 signed the amicus brief for Harvard.

So gross. Why aren’t they sticking together and protesting this corruption?

They are splintering. There are so many hiding, trying not to draw attention to themselves. This is how fascism is allowed to grow. It’s how the Nazi movement spread- p

+1. They are all trying to keep their head down to avoid being the next shakedown victim. It’s sad to see it come to this.

For all have sinned and the wages of sin are death

The biggest sinner is one in the white house and enabled by spineless snakes. But as my grandmother used to say, this too will pass. I think of it like a really painful kidney stone that eventually gets flushed away.

I know there is a lot of pushback in woke enclaves but for the overwhelming majority of the country, there are almost no political downsides to punishing woke colleges for being woke.

Every Republican president for the forseeable future is going to examine trump's policies and recognize that they can attack woke colleges and universities to bump their poll numbers.
This will happen EVERY Republican administration to a lesser or greater extent.
This is the new normal until the wokeness has been purged out of colleges the same way segregation was purged out of colleges.

So no, this will not simply pass. Some of this is going to become a policy plank.

Border security and immigration enforcement is also going to become a policy plank, one that even the Democrats are going to have to adopt.

So many things I could say this word salad, but I’m short on time. Here is a quick list:

1. Next president won’t be republican. As dysfunctional as the dems are right now, the stagflation that Trump is creating will doom the republicans. Inflation will tick up ~50 bps by the end of year and unemployment will do roughly the same. The fed WILL lower rates, but it will only make the inflation hotter next year. Trump will blame Obama and Biden. He might even blame Kamala Harris even though she lost.

2. If woke means having empathy for those who aren’t white, male, and cis then it is a label that fits most in America whether they realize it or not. Given population trends etc, things are going to more woke before they get less, and what you are seeing is NOT where we will end up on DEI policies.

3. Most people want secure borders, but again - that does not mean abandoning all due process, identifying “illegals” based on their appearance, and indiscriminately kicking people out. When this starts impacting the labor markets (and it will), the republicans will be the first ones to change their policies. My best guess is that this will start in earnest after losing the midterms — right about the time the economy is in the crapper.

4. UCLA will countersue around the $1B and they may even drop the demand before it goes to court. The $1B of damages has no basis, and it is a completely made up amount because it had nice ring to it. I personally think it reminded Trump of the Dr Evil bit from the Austin Powers movie that he watched in his more lucid days.

UCs have not had a DEI or affirmative action policy for decades so they already "got rid" of it. They admit more Asian candidates due to qualifications than the ivies. But UC application system is holistic and that's very subjective, save for GPA, which varies significantly by school anyway so it's really up to context. But they haven't admitted by race for decades.

Side note: I have been a reader for UC admissions in the past and I have gone through the training.

They will win their case when they sue Trump.

Maybe so, Trump loses most of the time, as he should.

The UCs have been prohibited from discriminating based on race since the 1990s but they have searched for and found ways around it to try and achieve the desired racial diversity.

At first they were trying to figure out how to maintain standards while achieving diversity but now they just care about diversity and they went test blind in order to get there.

The UCLA medical school at the very least is being racially discriminatory and I would bet the rest of the school is as well.

The students at UCLA are less impressive than they were pre-BLM.

Say more, with evidence.

This was an absolutely baseless and untrue statement. Facts most likely say the opposite. DP will present no evidence as it doesn’t exist.

It may but it shouldn't. Has anyone ever suggested it was okay to resent other minority groups after they won a discrimination case? It also probably won't actually happen, UCLA has already settled with the students.

I agree with this, and thanks for posting your POV. Given that UCLA has already settled, it makes it even more of a head-scratcher why the $1B extortion demand though.
