But I don't see this commercial as connected in any way to that threat.

+1
Honestly think this is about her body and not her race or even her coloring.

Really? You don’t see it when she says “great jeans (genes obviously) are passed down from parents to their offspring …. Mine are blue.” What does that have to do with selling pants?

I mean you can choose to ignore it I guess.

You're right. I only saw images, not the whole ad. Thanks for the clarification. That's gross.

Why is no one pointing out how stupid the copy is? “Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color."

It should be:

“Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, eye color, and even personality."

It’s literally a play on a controversial jeans ad done by Brooke Shields in the 80s. Similar copy on “genes”. It’s a play on words.

That translates to about a $1.

You mean This ad: “ What comes between me and my Calvins? Nothing”

The only thing that is similar is that it’s a blondish famous person partially clad in jeans.

Yes, you seem to miss that the stock is trading at such a low value that any movement is a big percentage.

Why does she have that weird fake Southern drawl?

It lost about 50 cents of that today.

It’s supposed to be sultry bedroom voice. What a strange campaign for back to school season. I honestly think they did this to try to revive their brand. My daughter likes to shop at Aerie and I honestly think that Aerie is probably floating that entire company. She gets plenty from Aerie but nothing from American Eagle. The one at my mall is a connected Aerie and AE and Aerie is always more crowded.

JP Morgan just downgraded the stock.

I thought this whole ad was based on the fact that she's known for her cleavage? I think it's tacky. It reminds me of those old Anna Nicole Smith Guess ads.

Am I the only one who thinks the...jeans don't look good on her? They make her look super straight and boxy up and down?

The demo of Guess always has skewed older and Adult. American Eagle has done ad campaigns with the casts of The Summer I turned Pretty and Outer Banks which are very much Teenager shows. It’s a very odd choice that was made to go with Sydney Sweeney and lean into the cleavage bit.

There are political figures sieg heiling on stage at political conventions, now is not the time to pretend we've never heard of Nazis.

Sure if they had done it about different women or a lot of random beautiful women it would read differently. Because there wouldn't be a history of violent eugenics behind the message.

100%. I also might have been ok if they just said she had great “jeans”. But there’s a version where “genes” is crossed out to say “jeans”. So gross.

Sydney Sweeney is a Beautiful girl but not someone I would go to to sell jeans. Bras and swimsuits? Yes. A jeans campaign requires a girl with a fantastic bottom and waist. That isn’t Sydney’s specialty.
