Do parents pay coaches…

I always donate extra and make sure to tip coaches and directors. My kid gets featured on social media as a raising star and gets all the minutes.

Nearing end of soccer run. Lived in Europe where small kid got trained up right. Never got to MLS Next. Two pro scouts recruited him but remained on second level the entire run from U-9 until tryouts this season at U18.

I feel I now should have paid at U12 rising to U13 and he would have made it on top team from then on. People: there are levels to pay to play and if you are only paying club fees (and player is small) realize my error and save your kids heartache: consider the extra fees.

Most small players in America and DMV are paying extra fees - I am convinced. At major club discussed here quite frequently in DMV the payment is to cover coaches’ car payment ~400 back on the day. Now probably ~650.

And the reason is really to just coach soccer and not have gym teacher gig as others on this thread have noted.

That’s the hard truth - there needs to be an expose on the travel club side of the Varsity Blues scandal but it will likely not be in the offing.

If I paid the the coach when my daughter was u12 she would have been put of the Talent ID list. I refused and it never happened even though she starts almost every game. Sigh...

I know I did the right thing but it would have been much easier just paying the coach + DOC off. Unfortunately that probably just opens another can of worms with her coach's hand out for minutes when he knows I'd pay.

You stayed at the same club the entire time? Why didn’t you move the mid to a different club that wouldn’t care about his size?

This is a top 30 in the nation club and they practice/play 10 min from our house. Other options are available but it would be 45min to 1 hour commutes each way and they're not ranked as highly. Trust me we've looked around. 0
