Why hasn't GMU surpassed UVA, W&M, VT?

What a completely bizarre statement. I find it refreshing that there is a university which offers even a *slight* conservative tilt - and that's mainly in their law school and economics department. Most schools are leftward leaning, many more than others. Finally, a good school which offers a healthy balance of perspectives.

The location is at the intersection of two four lane highways across the street from a Wendy’s, McDonald’s, and Taco Bamba.

Taco Bamba is solid… Hasn’t their law school already passed W&M?

This board always delivers.

Taco Bamba doesn't have a law school. You're thinking of Catholic University.

Johns Hopkins, Yale, and UCLA are in awful locations. George Mason is in a nice suburb.

All four of the schools are great places to teach because you can raise your family in nice areas with good schools. New Haven in particular is a dumb but faculty don't live there.

No way! The other VA schools do this. It’s ridiculous that the state’s top students can’t get into UVA and Tech. No need for GMU to do the same thing. It’s here to educate students, many career oriented and from first gen families. Works great!

UVA is on the downfall. Give it a bit longer and GMU will be ahead of it. People need to get it in their heads that UVA is not what it once was.

No football and no community engagement/spirit. It still has a reputation of a commuter school, not a party school.

The GMU President said - no football because of the cost. The area can support it but to be a national competitor it's 100s of millions of dollars of investment. UVA and Tech had a history to lean on.

They said no to Basketball after the Final 4 appearance the one time where admissions acceptance rate went below 50%. Imagine if they rode that ride.

They also said no to USNWR rankings game - to play that game the cost would be high.

They said they would focus on education for the community; the true purpose of the University. The rankings you see on USNWR is Mason not trying to game it. au naturale.

Breath of fresh air. Like I said, I see GMU as that scrappy kid who works their way up.

Yes, GMU is for the kids who just want an education and a job right out of college. Nothing more, nothing less. There's clearly a market for kids like that.

Adding football would be foolhardy. Huge cost, both upfront and ongoing.

It might just be a matter of time. I read that GMU is the first college to offer a masters in AI

UVA is a thing of beauty created by a founding father.

W&M is about to leap frog UVA for campus beauty. Once the new dorms are finished and the old 70’s ones are torn down, it will be the prettiest campus in the state by far.
