Penn State is actually quite amazing, which is why it’s such a popular out-of-state choice and t's the number one OOS school from my kid's FCPS school However, getting admitted to University Park is competitive, and it's especially difficult for certain majors. As a result, it might be surprising for some students to be admitted to Penn State but not JMU. |
No one said it is amazing, just that it is harder to get into than JMU. |
| No one thinks Penn State is special. |
I am fairly confident that JMU doesn’t yield protect. +1 Look at Naviance and you can tell they don't yield protect. I am looking at McLean HS right now. Above 4.0 it is a sea of green with one (one!) wait-list and all the rest green checks, regardless of SAT scores (and some are pretty low and likely went TO). For SATs, from 1300 up: there is one rejection, under ten waitlists, and dozens of green checks regardless of GPA. If you have a 1350 and a 3.5, you are surrounded by green checks with a wait-list here and there close by. But the top right corner is pure green. In sum, zero yield protection. |
It looks like you have to have an account to log in. Can you see what the Economics admit rate is? |
Thank you for this hopeful message. |
I interviewed for a job at Penn State doing fundraising so I did extensive research on Penn State. Their Alumni Association is quite incredible and they do some of the best fundraising in the country. There are more CEOs from Penn State than any other college. I didn't go there (or get the job!) but I was impressed by everything I learned about the school and alumni network. |
Another rude, condescending, know-it-all parent on DCUM! It never changes. Luckily, your type generally looks down on JMU which is one reason it’s such a great place. |
And barely anyone submits either. |
3.7 weighted or UW with the IB diploma? |
Why? |
It was much harder back in the 90s…only a 30% acceptance rate back then. |
And yet, I’ve never encountered a remotely impressive PSU grad. |
Same. (GPA 4.2 though) + 4 yrs of sport (although not good enough for D1). |

Son accepted
