DD just blew $400 at Sephora

I’m really curious what she bought. I go to Sephora pretty often and I’m looking at $33 eye shadow, $10 face masks, a make up brush for $30, moisturizer for $40, a lipstick for $50, $150 perfume, etc. She’d have to buy a lot or have very expensive taste to get to $400 easily. I’d be angry too.

If she exceeded the budget you gave her, she should return some of the items. A 16 year old is old enough to stick to a budget. My 13 year old can do it.

Or 5?

She should get a job.

I would let her keep $100 worth or so. The rest she can choose to either pay you back, or return. I think Sephora allows returns within 30 days, even of opening items.

The high end moisturizers or foundations cost $70-$100, so it could easily be things like that plus a few other items.

Holy crap, I buy fancy old lady moisturizers and have raised some eyebrows when restocking with my DH but I’ve never managed to get up to $400 in one go. If nothing else, she was ruthlessly efficient in her high spending.

But seriously, I would be worried about how she’s spending her time, the friends who she’s hanging out with, and what their collective values are.

Those of you who think $400 is hard to spend at Sephora are nuts. Most items there are $20-$30 minimum, and many are higher. A bag of 15-20 things could easily be $400. That being said make her return it, of course she doesn’t keep it.

I would let her keep 2 items and return the rest.

Also, it’s okay if she doesn’t have a job, but she probably has time to do chores/help around the house. I know school and activities and socializing are all important, but teens can get spoiled pretty fast if everyone cleans for them and they don’t have to contribute to the household in any way.

OP here. Thank you to everyone who replied.

Update: I've decided to let her keep the stuff this time around. However, I'm going to get her her own credit card (with a limit, of course) so that she can practice spending responsibly. She was NOT happy to hear this, but I had to put my foot down.

There you go!

Keep spoiling her. She'll make some man very happy one day, if she learns how to use those Sephora creams well.

Another thread that is useless without HHI.

She was not happy to hear that she gets to keep the $400 worth of stuff, plus gets a credit card that Mom and Dad will pay off, plus still doesn't have to work? What exactly is she sacrificing here?
What an absolute princess.

Who would buy 15-20 things all at once?!
