Why are people still testing for COVID

Who does that? Heck, who *ever* did that?

PP here. Just a couple weeks ago a mom emailed everyone after a youth group retreat that her two kids had tested positive. I truly don't know what she thought people would do with this information. It just causes uneccessary worry. To my knowledge, no one else got sick. And a couple of years ago we used to get emails like that frequently. "Hey moms, sorry to let you know that Larla tested positive for Covid the day after Susie's birthday party." You didn't used to get emails like that? If not, lucky!!

Don't spam people. I don't need to know if you have the flu or strep throat or pink eye either.

Alex is no longer with us and I absolutely have gotten many notifications like this since the beginning of the pandemic and as recently as the end of June 2024. I am 100% serious.

So what. They don't know you carry on with covid as if you didn't have it.

I would test to get Paxlovid.

You young and free spirits enjoy your life and just delete the email,

Is that a good enough reason for you, OP?

I could easily think of at least 10 different reasons why someone would want to test. Why can't you?

You might want to work on you post- pandemic anxiety and lack of empathy.

So you test EVERY time you visit, because you could have asymptomatic COVID?

NP here. Yes, I see my parents once a twice a week and I test every time before I see them.

Do you test for RSV, flu, and strep, too? Otherwise why are you just focused on covid when you can have asymptomatic cases of other illnesses?

I'm sure PP would test for those if at home tests were available. There are Flu tests, I use Lucria before visiting my elderly relatives.

But seriously, just because you cannot test for 100% of major illnesses, you simply wouldn't test at all? Most people do what the best option is, which is to test for what they can.

There is almost no risk of covid mortality unless you're elderly.

a good enough reason to mask up. Do you have grandparents? Older neighbors? Are they worth you doing something slightly uncomfortable so they can live?

Why can't your grandparents and neighbors wear masks to protect themselves?

They can, but better protection is offered if both sides mask. Simple science. You seriously want to infect grandparents and elderly neighbors? Have you no compassion or empathy>

Well, if I test positive with covid, I would let anyone who I was around for an extended period know. That way if they feel off, they are more likely to consider they might have covid and stay home for 2-5 days.

+1. Just tested positive. Second time getting it. 2021 was a breeze and this is pure hell. It seems there is a new surge.

I feel like people still take it a little more seriously. I got covid for the second time this year and I was sick enough that I was out of work for a whole week.

Why do people still test if they are not an extreme risk population -- work and schools no longer require, new variants are so contagious that masking at home is theater.

Using up old tests? More people aiming for paxlovid?

I'm all about people staying home when sick, are we keeping people home even when well but testing pos

Because it is not just an annoyance. It's a pretty lethal virus even when symptoms are mild. Just stop the nonsense, but I'm sure you won't. People need to mask again, right now.
