why would you have him pick almsot the most expensive option? Pick from JMU, USC, Indiana whichever felt best after visiting. |
Thank you for being the one person to finally post annual costs for each school, which is the only way to do a proper comparison! Between the cheaper options, I’d lean towards USC (if student okay with big school and Southern/Greek culture). IU Kelley definitely has the prestige and name recognition for business and Pitt also a very solid option. |
Cal (Berkeley) |
Northeastern for sure - Boston is a great college town and Northeastern is very hard to get into congrats (not saying Vtech isn't) |
Totally agree with you. I do feel Fordham is not ranked well recently. Personally I prefer to Richmond, but I just do not know which is better regarded in the business world between Richmond and Miami. I immigrated to US about 10 year ago, and this is my only son which will go to college this year. I do not know much about colleges in the US. |
In case he can't transfer and is at Pitt...it is the best of the lot other than William and Mary. |
BU but it is a very urban campus. UMD I believe is a very spaced out campus in several locations? |
Williams is a completely different experience than the others. There are smart and accomplished graduates of all these schools, but Williams is tiny and quite remote and cold/gloomy during the Winter. Just make sure that is the college experience you want (which some very much do). |
Brown!! |
Pitt is better than IU Kelley? |
Working in the corporate world for large companies in the DC area, I have never heard of anyone from either business school being hired locally in the DC area. I would say Miami because it has a bigger alumni network, probably has more connections/alumni in business in NYC. My gut says both probably stay locally though. Call career services at each school and ask about placement in NYC. I would speak to alumni of each school if you can find them on LinkedIn. Most folks pretty responsiveness. And I mean your son speaks to them not you. |

UMBC
UMD/Honors College Case Western Pitt/Honors College Emory/Oxford Math major, likely double major with a social science Values the scholarship and learning above all. Wants to be among smart people really interested in learning. Doesn’t care about frats or social atmosphere, doesn’t care about sports. Wants a diverse campus. |
Does your child speak Spanish or have any ties to Latin American culture? That is definitely a big part of Miami if he wishes to stay in that area after graduation. Fordham Gabelli is well-regarded and has name recognition, plus NYC business ties are invaluable. Richmond is a much smaller city (and has some Southern culture to it) so just a very different feel from NYC or Miami. But, it’s not a bad place to go to college! |
| With all due respect, I don’t believe that’s the right question. I would expect there to be differing opinions - and variations in rankings (that we pay too much attention to, and don’t often even know how they are determined). And “business” covers a lot of different majors and specialties. Where will your student enjoy living? Size of school? Is student more excited about one or the other? Visit if you can - nothing like walking the campus while students are there. Good luck! |
For undergrad, yes. I know a kid from the Gym there now at Pitt doing business. He got money but he turned down Gtown, GW, and W&M for it. |
