The property taxes would go to the state and local governments. The income taxes go to the federal government. Robbing Peter to pay Paul. |
No, peter and paul have a bigger pie and workpail Joe has a job now. And his wife has a new job in an insurance office or at a retail store that serve all of Joe's pals. |
The state and county are robbed of tax monies. Taxes that pay to educate workpail Joe's children and pay for services, like roads, that Joe might want to use. I guess the state can beg the federal government for a grant. Central planning and control at it's finest. |

Chipmakers are struggling to get enough Americans trained for the positions needed to keep pace with growing demand. The Biden administration on Friday announced its latest effort to help alleviate the problem. The White House said Friday that the US expects to invest more than $5 billion in a public-private consortium aimed at supporting research and development in advanced computer chips. |
Consortium? That's not going to go well. |
Why not? Other consortiums that are PPPs have been very successful. |
Sounds like a good problem to have, honestly. Growing demand, more American workers needed… |

Tsmc is able to build and scale in Japan much faster than the us |
|
Semis are best made in countries where:
1. Technical education is high and valued 2. Wages are low 3. Exchange rates are make domestic currency much weaker than the US dollar The us will never be competitive with East Asia on chip mfg - not sure how Rhodes scholars like Gina raimondo don’t get this |
Different zoning and other approval processes. That is a local issue, not federal. |
Nonsense. State and county still collect some revenues but the bigger benefit comes from the economic activity generated. |
The US doesn't need to dominate this sector, it needs to be adequate (with the ability to scale somewhat in an emergency) in order to ensure basic protection for national security reasons. The economic and jobs piece is gravy. |
So Japan dumps memory chips - Intel pivots to processors and the result is a forty year US led technical and economic juggernaut… but you say we can’t compete… We can be successful here. We need our policies and tax code to support our own… |
