Suggestions for Greek-heavy, "bro" liberal arts colleges?

Paul Ryan went to Miami (OH). 'Nuff said.

There's a far deeper pool of jerks who attended Harvard. And while I don't agree with his views, I'd be surprised if Paul is not extremely smart.

Your logic is lacking.

+1. Not a “LAC” but smaller and fits the bill. OP’s kid should check out private colleges in the South — SMU, TCU, Tulane, Wake Forest, etc

Yes it is.

And regardless of what you think of his politics, he never came off like a jerk at all.

+1. Don't agree with his politics but he doesn't come off as a Bro type at all - at least, not the negative version of the bro.

Is Yale an acceptable place to be away from Bro culture? Because Kavanaugh went to Yale and he definitely seems like he was the Bro type in college.

I don't like your attitude but I do think that fit is super important.
I'm reminded of the parent on here a few weeks ago whose son chose Cornell over Cal Tech (based on the Ivy brand). He is a super bookish, STEM focused, introverted, serious musician and he's now miserable.
Trust me, my "bro" kid would be just as miserable at Cal Tech.
Sure, there are all types at each school but it is overwhelmingly easier to find your way at a school that matches who you are.

My daughter is considering Miami of Ohio and now I’m worried.

She'll be fine. They have sororities for all types of chicks, and not all of the frats are full of stereotypical bro-types (not that there's anything wrong with that).

This is 2023. Yale has changed. As have many other schools.

Op, my 2 cents: your son's personality may mean he wants to head-off somewhere where he knows someone. One or two guys from his HS class, or guys who were ahead of him in school. I'd really research where guys like him, from his HS, go. Ask other parents from your HS, where they shared a friendship, activity. The data's there. Have a frank discussion with the HS guidance department. You won't need to look hard, won't need to look for a needle in a haystack.

He's likely going to apply to both Bucknell and Lehigh as well as some large universities.

Any ideas for liberal arts colleges with some element of this culture that are a tier above Bucknell? He's actually a really studious kid--a weird mix of super academic and social "bro" (party going, guy's guy, sports loving, etc).

Plenty of that type at Amherst.

Also at Williams

Really? the four people I know who went to Williams recently are not that type at all. Interesting. I am curious if some of this info is dated?

There are some bros at Yale, on the teams and in the frats, but most of the kids seem to be stemmy nerds.

This should be Davidson's advertising slogan. Also fits for Washington and Lee. Maybe UVa, too. Studious frat bro heaven.

Agree, totally UVA.

Odd that OP is actively helping their kid find a bro culture school. That is everything I don't want for my kid who is still too young to be looking seriously at specific schools.

+1 I'm looking at this thread to know which schools to avoid.

Oh my.

I have a very non-quirky girl who would also be much happier around boys who don’t fit the “bro” model. Most intelligent women fall in that category.
