What is the appeal of Pitt?

I think it's a few things:

1. Academics are better than many DCUMers know or think. Solid in engineering and sciences especially. Plus UPMC is right there and other large companies to intern for.

2. Affordability - our neighbor's kid received $25k off each year, all four years. Went there, did well and parlayed that into med school. Not too shabby.

3. Town is not quite at Ann Arbor or Chapel Hill level of college town, but it has its own charm in a slightly gritty way. Plus it's more compact, easy to get around and lots of dive bars. Plus college sports and pro sports both.

3. Less attitude - seriously, some of the top 25-30 schools on this forum are meat grinders. Pitt is more down to earth. There are plenty of smart kids but they are not in their rooms all night like over at CMU or wondering if their lives will go one without the next test or internship. That used to be how most colleges were!

Not a booster, but Pitt has its merits - combined with rolling admission of course.

Bitterly cold? Hahaha.

My kid is at Pitt and concerned it won’t get cold enough. Loves winter.

If true - ur kid needs to worry about some more meaningful things in life ..🙄
