When is DPR ever going to reseed and water that field? |
You people just won't let this one go. The trees that were cut down at Hearst were all the weed trees on the hill. None of the mature trees were removed. Hearst Park is dramatically nicer than it was before renovation and gets a lot more use, as it should. |
What about all the dead trees that were removed at the ECC to pave the way for the Maret field! Those Friends of the Field sure are peeved! |
What is the plan to reforest the deforested (and already eroding) slopes with native or non-weed trees? Does DPR even have a plan? Buehler? Bühler? |
the only trees DPR cut down were the weed trees that shouldn't have had 30 years of deferred maintenance. Of the lined Oaks, only the diseased ones were taken down - that was a public safety issue. The park is used a lot more today than it was 5 years ago. For you, that is probably the problem, since you liked having it to yourself. |
That is not the topic of this thread, but I will bite...a privately owned piece of land where the owners negotiated a deal with another private entity. What exactly is it of your business? |
Hearst has been heavily used for years by Stoddert and other groups. So why is it that this green, shady park has been largely stripped of that tree canopy? DC needs to plant more trees in and around Hearst. Or was the whole idea to get rid of any shade around the new pool? |
If it wasn't clear, I agree with the position you just expressed, and was indeed mocking that if the so-called friends of the field nimbys. |
Trees of Heaven sound far more majestic than "weed tree that grows everywhere and is an invasive species that will also serve as a wonderful host for the spotted laternfly after growing literally anywhere". Those were what were cut down. If we want more trees there, a call to Casey Trees is the way to go. |
Sounds like another smear by the MAGA development, let’s-concrete-everything crowd to dismiss tree huggers as NIMBYs. Yawn. |
What do you expect a parent to do?! |
Not true at all. Several candidates pushed for universal pre-k, including Frumin, Goulet, Finley, Duncan, Bergmann, and Cohen. |
Nope not true - I've had kids playing soccer with DC Soccer (formerly Stoddert) for 12 years and the Hearst field is rarely used, mostly because it has poor drainage and the field was always in terrible shape. |
Maybe when Hearst field was under construction. Before teams and their parents would wait on the sidelines for their turn to play, especially on Saturdays when the field was in use from early morning to late afternoon. Parking nearly on those days was a challenge, too. DC claims that the drainage has been fixed. |
The only tree canopy that was stripped were weeds that grew on the hills for two generations. They never should have been allowed to grow that unweildy over decades. |
