McKinley tech incoming families

DCUM has plenty of Black parents, myself included.

The demographic info is depressing. Why still less than 4% white if it's a solid HS option, and not even 1% Asian. Seriously. What's going on?

The demographic info is not depressing to me just like I don't find Banneker's demographic info depressing.

JR has a bunch of STEM options. No point to go to Tech when JR has a bunch and has for awhile. Of course there are many White families outside of JR's boundary, but they've never chosen Tech or Banneker en masse. However, let's not derail this thread. People want to know about Tech from families who chose it and their students go there. Not, why a certain DC demographic has not. Please start another thread for that even though every Tech thread seems to evolve into that.

Also, Im a "gentrifier" who lives near McKinley Tech and knows personally many of the white families in that area, and I think there will be an explosion of interest in the next 4 or 5 years. These are families who don't mind being a minority as a white person, and I've heard lots of murmuring interest recently.

An explosion of interest based on murmuring has been predicted for years. Seriously doubt it will materialize in under a decade. Sugarcoat away but McKinley's demographics and academics just don't inspire your garden-variety UMC parent EotP. They want BASIS, the Latins, maybe DCI, Banneker, Walls or J-R, the burbs, privates. Strike out everywhere else, McKinley if you're exceptionally open-minded.

Five years ago someone would have posted that exact same comment except it would have been about Banneker.

Not really. Banneker is 4% white so still not a whole lot of buy in from UMC parents in this town.

Sure there might be a handful or 2 more white kids but 2-3% more is not statistically significant although some on here try to make it seem so.

I know several white kids to applied to Banneker and didn't get in. So, the number attending Banneker. is significantly smaller than the number who wanted to attend.

Your anecdotal several white kids does not make the numbers statistically significant.

Banneker also clears their wait list.

This is just plain wrong. My kid applied and did not get an acceptance at Banneker. There was no waitlist number given.

I really wish untrue comments like this could be down voted, like on Reddit
