Omg College Board is just trying to extract a tax from every regular high school class. |
The most ridiculous is AP precalc. That's not a college course. But I'm grateful for the English 10 course - maybe that will allow for at least a bit of differentiation so that kids aren't all in the sane class. |
How does CS principles compare with the Intro CS class that MCPS offers? My kid is not into CS so was avoiding AP for fear it would be too advanced. But if it really is a HS level course, maybe it makes sense to take that... |
No, they are in ESOL. But don't let me stop you from spreading your misinformation. |
Anything that provides a way out of the fake honors classes is welcome. |
| Essentially, that seems to be what's going on. |
NP here. At my school they are not all in ESOL. I have had kids put into my Honors science classes who can barely speak English. The enterprising ones will use Google Translate to communicate with me. But others are completely overwhelmed and just shut down. We don’t have ESOL sections for all our science classes unfortunately |
Interesting. So what now kids will take AP Seminar, AP Research and then what? Don’t think most Social Science or Natural Science students are going to want to cycle through AP Lang or AP Literature at that point. |
At least it's an alternative to honors for all, where kids learn next to nothing. |
AP Seminar is a good class. |
I think most kids on the AP track will do AP Seminar, AP Langiage, and AP Literatire for English 10, 11, and 12. Some may also do AP Research if they want the capstone. |
| Honors for all isn't going away. It's just part of the ongoing struggle to dumb things down like 4.8W GPA's or making SATs so much easier that 1500+ is commonplace. The trick is finding a way to work the system to still get a good education despite all this. |
| This +1000! |
Apply out of state, to an area of the country where APs aren't as prolific. |
