Agree. If you’re going to pass up Vanderbilt, do it for Northwestern. Not Georgetown. Times have changed- I too remember when Georgetown was top-of-the-list (or way up there) for many east coast kids. Not anymore. Absent a compelling reason to attend college in DC, I would drop it off the list entirely if I were your daughter. |
Less than 50 percent of admitted kids choose to go to Georgetown, over 70 percent of admitted kids pick vandy.
Same with northwestern |
I have no interest in being in TN - so that leaves northwestern or Georgetown |
I would definitely pick Northwestern!!
Great job getting admission to all these schools |
Vandy is not quite as good as its current undergrad ranking and definitely a peer school of Georgetown. The reputation of the law schools is not remotely comparable, Georgetown law by a mile over Vandy law. NW law school is also far superior to Vandy. |
Out of her 3 options, she should seriously consider northwestern.
The only negative is cold weather, otherwise more superior than her other choices. |
I know few kids went to northwestern and then got admitted to U Chicago law school . |
She wouldn't get admitted anyway |
You've been admitted to none of the above. Bye! |
Wrong - Georgetown grad . Didn’t apply to vandy or northwestern |
Another agree. I too remember when Georgetown was an "it" school. It's not there anymore. Smart kids far prefer Vanderbilt or Northwestern generally. Of the two, Vandy seems to be on the higher upswing. It might be in Tennessee, but Nashville is a very blue city. Most find it more enjoyable than Evanston |
So you clearly don’t know all the smart kids. My smart kid from from a DC private and several of DC’s friends all applied to Georgetown, a couple also applied to NU and not one of the group applied to Vandy. My DC wanted no part of a southern, Greek-oriented, preppy school. |
No, I don’t know every smart kid, but the acceptance rate for both Vanderbilt and Northwestern is half of the rate for Georgetown. The trends are changing. I hope your kid’s friends got into Georgetown or NU or whatever school they prefer. You can’t go wrong! I just wouldn’t choose Gtown if I had the other choices (not purely based on ranking- for other reasons that I’m sure are driving the acceptance rates). |
You can’t really compare since Georgetown does not accept the common app, requires more essays and does require standardized tests. These hurdles narrow the applicant pool significantly. Vandy, in contrast, takes nearly half its class test optional. Personally think this means Georgetown will have a stronger class. |
For kids going into government/politics/international relations, Georgetown is the best. |
