What sport for a 14yo who has never literally never played sports?

Cross country and field hockey aren't "easy sports". Athletes and coaches take these sports seriously too.


I think “easy” means easy to make the team. These sports are often no-cut. No one said they aren’t serious sports. Chill.

And everyone knows if you don’t work hard and show up to practice then you will get cut even from a no cut sport.

Playing FH well is very difficult. Need speed yet excellent ball control. And there are lots of penalties if you aren’t careful with how you play.

Ball control can be learned with LOTS of practice and training.

Before passing judgement, maybe look at a YouTube video and see how the game is played.


Picking up the basics of field hockey is easy. Being really good at any sport takes hard work and perseverance. But making the JV FH team at many high schools is not hard and many girls show up to tryouts never having played before. My daughter was one of them. She did a beginner camp for a couple weeks over the summer and worked on her conditioning.

Rowing and fencing are sports where lots of people start at a later age. She may like fencing; a mix of dance and chess you can keep doing into old age.
