Are shoes off people a bit weird?

Anonymous
We are a shoes off household but I can’t walk barefoot, I have plantar fasciitis so I have my cushioned house slippers. My husband kids too wear house slippers, strictly to be used only inside the house.

I think people who wear outdoor shoes inside their house are super weird, also, how can you relax in those shoes???

Seems actually *more* crazy to wear shoes in the house where your shoes have been in a public restroom and likely have fecal matter on them or god knows what.

Shouldn't you be worrying about the oceans?

Don’t you have anything better to do besides start these types of threads?

You are the biggest TROLL.

Man, I am tired of your writing style, OP.

And yet all these weirdo shoes off people are fine with their dogs and cats tracking stuff all over the house.

Well, both shoes and pets are fomites. I would respect anyone's wish to keep their home clean.

This is so strange to me. I come from a typical suburban family background. Live now in upper NW DC with kids in DC private school. Lots of friends and neighbors who are professionals in this area. Doctors. Lawyers etc. I’m my 15 years of living here - attending parties, dinners, visiting with friends, play dates etc I have never once been asked to remove my shoes. The kids usually kick them off as soon as they get into the house. But adults are always wearing shoes …. I have never once experienced this request. In our own home we all take our shoes off. Just for comfort more than anything. Not because we are thinking about germs and dirt. We have a fairly clean house with weekly visits from cleaners … I don’t know a single family in our circle who demand shows off when we stop by for a visit ….and have never ever experienced this request. Strange.

And I have never been to a home where we HAVENT taken our shoes off. It’s gross if you don’t have people take them off in your own home. All the poo and pee and dirt and vomit goes in your home

I have to wear inserts and shoes all the time or I am in pain.

My inlaws and parents bring inside shoes to events. Not that hard.

What exactly has happened to you or family friends when you have encountered all this fecal matter and vomit in your or others' homes? Bacterial infections? Viruses?

Im a shoes off person. But I'm not rude so i will never demand or request. If you ask ill say "whatever is most comfortable". But most people see the lined up shoes at the entrance and me in slippers and take theirs off because they aren't rude either.

You are the reason we will never end disease in this country.

We’re a half Asian family and so a shoes off household. But if I’m having a party, I don’t make guests take their shoes off. I do, however vacuum and mop the floors immediately following said party.

Most of our friends are also shoes off households so when they come over, removing shoes is automatic.

You're right. I realize now that if we all just take our shoes off in our homes and have all our guests do the same, there will be no more disease. Who knew it was so simple?

So you or loved ones have come down with a disease by encountering pee and vomit tracked into your home on others' shoes? That sounds horrible.

This has to be one of the weirdest OPs I've seen on DCUM (at least that I don't immediately assume is a troll -- I think this OP is genuinely worked up about this). And that is saying something.
