And people who are insecure about either paying 1.2 million for a close-in shack or insecure people who have to justify why they live in Aldie.

people seem to forget about fairfax county. i guess it’s either arlington shack or exurban aldie; nothing in between. great falls and mclean arethe best of both worlds.

Anonymous wrote:Aldie is kinda like the Aldi store. Not Balducchi’s (Kalorama, CC), Whole Foods (Arlington, Falls Church, Mclean, Bethesda) or Harris Teeter (Fairfax), but a place where many go and try to sell it as a good idea. After all the closest competition is Lidl (Burke, Silver Spring).

Great correlation! Aldi (and Aldie) fan here happily saving hundreds on my grocery bill- buying the same stuff I would get elsewhere for a fraction of the price, and I don't care about selling it to anyone! If they can't see a good idea, then that's on them! I no longer have to go to Whole Foods and everyone I know (myself included) who steps into a Balducci's thinks it's highway robbery.

Balduccis and Whole Foods know that. That’s why they haven’t built in Aldie

Try harder…

Move to Loudon and trade in a quarter acre lot with a luxury home for a half acre builder grade craftsman. Newer but low ranked schools filled with URM and trumpers. All in the name of saving some money due to inventory shortage. We’ll stick to paying millions.

I don't understand why people "closer in" have such a hang-up with people who choose to live further out. Newsflash- not everyone WANTS to live in congested Reston or Tysons. Some people actually want nice-sized lots and could care less about being close to Tysons Corner Mall. I know you want people to think that we spend our days holed up in our homes with nothing to do, but that's not the case. We actually have neighborhoods and communities and plenty of things to do here. We're not worried about you all, so don't worry about us.

Loudoun schools are crap. I know, because my kids go there. Such a mistake.

They’re absolutely horrible! We got sold on out here years ago when they were much better. We can’t get out of here fast enough after watching them go down the tunes in the last several years. The race issues are out of control!

I never lived in DC, but did live in an international city. I am just not a city person. I don’t care for it.

When we moved to the area we settled in western Fairfax, and a few years later went further west. We had a nice enough neighborhood, but there was too much traffic for me and it took so long to get anywhere. I had a 4 mile commute but it took me 20 minutes. Nothing could be done quickly.

We also were not impressed with the schools. In some ways, they simply failed to meet the needs of my kid regardless of how involved we were. It really felt like they were trying hard to not give what he needed even though other kids were getting it. School in Loudoun has been much better. It has been easy to get the services my kid needs and he is doing much better.

All that said, I’m happy where I am and I hope you are happy where you are. There is no reason to fight over which location is better because the things that make a location better vary by person.

Well, there is a Whole Foods on the western edge of Ashburn (just across 7 from Lansdowne/Leesburg). These days every time I go there it’s super busy.

Maybe all the folks in Aldie that wish they had one are going there.

The person who said 45 minutes was right. Right now…47 min with tolls. 1 hour 8 min without tolls. Ballston to aldie per Google maps.

And most of the people who live in slide probably work in Reston or Tyson’s, so they would have half of that commute.

Ouch.

It's Loudoun, troll. Try harder.

Uh oh - the spelling police is here.

If you look at homes for sale in Aldie, there’s almost nothing but $1M+ homes. People saying it’s below Bethesda and especially Arlington are delusional. Don’t forget that Arlington is just a segregated version of Silver Spring.

Honestly, if your kid isn't doing well at Loudoun schools (or any nearby school systems, honestly), then I think you have a different issue. Any smart, disciplined kid from an educated family will do well just about anywhere.

Loudoun Schools graduated one of my children to Brown and the other to UVA. 🤷‍♀️
