He also never claimed to be a fighter pilot. He graduated from Harvard Law and went into JAG.

This thread is embarrassing in like 100 ways.

For DeSantis, yes.

Actually, no. It is embarrassing for Democrats who think pointing this out is in someway a negative for DeSantis.
He has never claimed to be a pilot. Never.
And, the fact that this was one of his responsibilities is not surprising.

And, pointing something like this out just highlights the fact that DeSantis has served in the military unlike others in high office.

This whole shtick worked super well for John Kerry. And Mike Pompeo really burnished his record with his combat in Germany. DeSantis should definitely make a few more fighter pilot commercials.

John Kerry is the biggest poseur of them all. He is so full of himself and his insane plastic surgery face is crazy. No one can possibly take him seriously.

The point is that exaggerating your military service is not a political positive. And military service itself seems pretty irrelevant at this point in Presidential politics.

Yes but DeSantis isn’t exaggerating his experience. The Top Gun parody is not actual meant to tell people he was a pilot. It is tongue in cheek. Dukakis was unwittingly hilarious in the tank. He didn’t mean to be but he was. Backfire! And Kerry basically lied about what he was doing with the swiftboats and it was yet another instance of Kerry amplifying his own credentials. He was trying to evoke JFK in every way and it just didn’t work because he is fundamentally smug and unlikable.

If DeSantis can leave it at that one commercial this might be the case.

DeSantis will first have to "handle" Trump before he can "handle" Biden. Don't be so sure that Trump won't prevail.

Yeah thanks. Voted for trump twice. He is done. He is a net negative now. He needs to go away and most of us feel that way.

Since you seem so sure that most Republicans agree with you about Trump, can you explain why the Republican establishment as a whole--not just a handful of people--won't disavow Trump?

It isn’t necessary to have a war with trump. He still motivates a lot of people.

I get that Trump motivates people so they don't want to cut him loose, but Trump also has the ability to inflict serious damage on DeSantis and whomever else he tussles with during the primaries. And if he doesn't prevail in the primaries, he will spend his time attacking the GOP establishment and their anointed candidate. He will keep communicating with and riling up his base (the folks who are in his cult of personality) and will draw votes away from the GOP candidate. He will not fall in line and support the GOP candidate who will go up against Biden. So as much as you'd like to dismiss Trump, he is not going away. He will burn it all down if he has to.

And fox will be forced to cover it all to make the money! ( If they are still in business)

Pro tip. My family is R (Fox) and my husbands is L (msnbc and cnn). MSNBC and CNN feature trump WAY more than Fox. Way way more. Fox has definitely moved on.

OMG this is the truth. I was in a place where I was subjected to watching CNN for several hours and all they did was talk about Trump. For the two hours straight I had to sit in that room. Holy moly.
I’ve said this repeatedly, it’s democrats that are keeping Trump alive, not Republicans.

Totally!

LOL.

I don’t dismiss him. Your analysis of him is spot on. As I said, he has become a net negative. He is a take no prisoners kind of guy and he will absolutely lash out at anyone and everyone that challenges him whether it’s good for the Republican Party or the country or not. And republicans know it! He is definitely the old guy who yells outrageous stuff all the time and so he is going to end up ignored. Yes some people still want him but they want to win more than they want him. He wants him to be president more than he wants a republican to be president. He feels like he got a raw deal and frankly I think he did with Russia collusion hoax and COVID happening. But that’s the way it went and now he is a has been. He doesn’t know it but he is. But like Barack, and Bill Clinton, he fires people up. So he is going to be a helpful motivating tool and then once DeSantis declares in May, he will just rail agains DeSantis and I suspect DeSantis will do what he does which is to obliquely reference trump but not fire back until the debates. And then I think DeSantis will just rise above as the most poised, intelligent, forward looking, hopeful, candidate.

HOPEFUL?! You listen to Ron DeSantis and come away feeling HOPEFUL?! Good gd.

High income Republicans also have PTSD from Trump. So yeah, they are “hopeful” when they listen to DeSantis - they hope he can dispense of Trump and then beat Biden. Because right now they feel like a bunch of losers.

I guess I can see that. I thought PP meant the content of what he has to say, because the man is a walking dystopian dialogue generator.[/quote

Perhaps but a lot of people —normal people- think this world of high crime, no punishment, anti police, open borders, and editing of books to remove pronouns is actually dystopia and we don’t like it at all.

LOL open borders dur dur dur

And that's fine - believe what you like! - but he speaks as if the world is about to open and we're about to get sucked into the magma. Not as if he has a beautiful vision of what life could be like. Do you see the difference? It's never about hope. And Trump was the same - I guess is the same. It's all about doom, it's all about horror, it's never about how great life could be with a few little changes (or big changes). That's dystopian.

Florida is florida. 2024 is about the swing states. PA, NV, MI, AZ....these states rejected forced birthers and will do it again in 2024.

And that makes sense because when he was assigned to a SEAL team, he was deployed to Fallujah. Helicopters were a major form of transportation in that theater and it would make sense someone deployed with SEALs would have needed to like, get on a helicopter and be able to use the comms through the helmet.

I understand OP might be a bit dumb and think anyone in a flight helmet is 1) a pilot (not true) or playing dress up as a pilot, and that 2) all pilots are fighter pilots. You'd have to believe both of these's things to reach OP's conclusion.

To be fair it's less offensive and weird than the one where he literally said Gd wants him in office

DeSantis = pure cringe

I still can’t believe he’s only 44. I thought he was way older.

Petty is attacking vulnerable populations to try to win some votes.

This is politics.

I won't vote for DeSantis under any circumstances, but if this were to get to a point where he needed to address it (doubtful) then not throwing a hissy fit over it is the way. See John Kerry and Michael Dukakis above.

I have no doubt that he can skillfully address the fact that one of his many responsibilities as a Naval officer was to oversee drug testing.
The fact that this thread has gotten to 8 pages in less than 24 hours shows me that the left is totally threatened by him.

It's not 8 pages of urinalysis. Some of the pages were criticizing his Top Gun spoof ad and other pages were criticizing his stint as a torturer in Gitmo.
