Maybe we should pull the stats of the shoplifters in tysons and talk about shooting them. I bet most are from the area. |
You really are an idiot. People from Maryland and DC aren't making the trek to Tysons because the shopping centers there are failing or the offices empty. Just the opposite. If they wanted to hang out around "failing shopping centers and rows of empty offices" they could stay home. |
This guy was a DC resident with a long history of violent crime. Good riddance |
Right. Depending on what the suspect looks like...terrified sometimes. Can keep their wits about them others. I guess it's like rolling the dice on someone professionally trained. |
Agree. Let’s not act like he was Jean Valjean. |
+1 😁 |
Fairfax does not have any foot pursuit policy. It has been recommended in the past. Now may be a good time to develop one.
For those asking what he shoplifted, it was a pair of designer sunglasses. It appears he had no weapon. |
He had just been released from jail on a parole violation. He wasn’t stealing food or diapers for his 2 children. Instead, he was stealing designer sunglasses. I hope that these poor policeman don’t lose their jobs. |
I hope they go to prison. You don’t shoot unarmed people for shoplifting, period. At a minimum they should be fired for incompetence. |
You are everything that is wrong with our criminal justice system and the reason why crime of all types continues to increase in this country. He wasn’t shot because he was shoplifting and he wasn’t a victim. He was shot, because when the police tried to apprehend for shoplifting, he ran. He was a lifelong criminal with a long and violent history. The police shouldn’t have to risk their lives chasing him into the woods only to have him pull out a weapon and kill them. No sympathy for this POS. |
He was unarmed. YOU are everything that is wrong with this country. Maybe go live somewhere more in line with your values. I suggest Somalia or Saudi Arabia. |
They looked for a weapon with metal detectors. I suppose there officers are going to say they thought he had a weapon - and let's be honest, everyone has a weapon so it's a reasonable thought. The body cam may be helpful here, but, in the woods at night, it may not show anything. |
Exactly. No question about it. Who is telling criminals that running from cops might be a good idea? Where does this come from? |
in the dark the flash of a cell phone can look like a weapon. Officers have to make a split second decision. |
Agree. At some earlier point than pursuit in woods at night, pursuit should've ended. Not worth a deadly encounter over sunglasses. But obviously, if they used metal detectors all day, he was probably believed to be armed with a gun and about to shoot. I can't imagine belief was armed with a knife if he was fleeing, what's someone going to do, throw one like a dart? omg, as I'm typing this I remember seeing video of saudi car meet up near coastal flats at mall, same evening??, i think one car was a charger or mustang, celebrating saudi holiday with flags and there's a loud bang I think in video. could that have been what officers heard and they thought was gun shot?? |
